heartbreaking work of staggering genius - dave eggers
First thing that comes to mind is the part about how MR Ts family lived near them during his childhood, in Lake Forest, IL. Which probably means I have missed the literary genius of this piece, but what else is new. I mostly dug the first 2/3 of the novel before the narrator seemingly lost his damn mind and started rambling. I honestly dont think I am cultured enough literarily to take this book and put it up on a pedestal. The internal dialogue was to die for mostly, the way his thoughts got so out of hand so quickly, about his mother passing or about the babysitter murdering his younger brother. I also think its novel the way he chose, at such a young age, to take on the role of his brothers keeper that does show some level of insane courage.
In short, the first 2/3 however seemed extremely amusing to me and I love reading the adventures of Dave and Toph I even shared a few events with friends suggesting they read the book only to be followed by a very angry version of myself telling them all to forget it and tearing up the lending list of their names.
