'Hope' is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—
And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—
I've heard it in the chillest land—
And on the strangest Sea—
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me....

CUPS

Speak, memory,
that I may not forget
the taste of roses
nor the sound of ashes
in the wind;

That I may
once more
taste the green
cup of the sea

lost of books!

Lots of nonfiction in there, curiously juxtaposed against the Stephen King.  Was the Nate Silver any good?

There are two things going on in my life that dominate my time. My Mother is dying. My sons are autistic. Everything else is deformed by that lens.

What of it? Every life has its challenges and I have mine. The constant danger for me is that I am dragged down by the incremental impact of sequential disappointment and quotidian horror.

What does that mean?...

magneticflux:
in abstract terms check out r scott bakkers writing, particularly 'the socio cognitive pollution of neuroscience' and how the modern medicalization splits us into two parts: one subject mired in manifest notions of personality, norms, morality, responsibility, will, and the other abject rooted in the increasing mountains of data flowing in from psychology and the cognitive neurosciences concerning the mechanisms that underwrite every thing about our minds (to be clear he does not push anti psychiatry)

on a personal level, take it from me, what you are doing is very important.  my father and i dont speak because he holds my anxiety disorder over me, claims i fake it/ its all in my head, or 'have never tried', and i get constant abuse because i have had a difficult time working.

I let my auto-renew run. I am going to give the site one more year. My biggest complaint, it no longer feels like a community. Something is missing.

littlejohn22:
i agree, something is missing and I hope they fix it...not sure what it is though... just seems harder to navigate

It might be better once they work the kinks out... some of the things are actually starting to be improvements. Still, the way it's structured to be easy to read on phones makes it kind of difficult and annoying to read on an other medium.

I went to Gencon over this year and did their VIG package. This stands for Very Important Gamer, which is designed to appeal to both geekery and snobbery. The program is actually well worth the investement & not because of any associated geek street cred you get from it. this is about pure value.

For $500.00 you get first crack at housing. This is huge...

I am glad to hear you were scheming and planning, and that they gave you a special room for it. Scheming is important.

A most excellent choice. It is astonishing how many good guitar things there are in the world. I am usually more of an electronica girl - or at least, I think that's the current parlance - but there is nothing like the old guitar riffs.

Indeed. We were overwhelmed by Grand Warlord Voss just last night. I suspect he'll get what's coming to him tonight, though.

How was your weekend last weekend? Did you meet any good games?
baudot:
I've had an OK time with the starters. As best I can tell, it's somewhere in the kneading to baking steps that I'm screwing things up.

How was GenCon to you? I skipped this yeah, but made PAX.

So my Mother had a stroke. The bleeding kind that marks the beginning of a grinding and painful end. Episode after episode will come now. Each incident stripping her of more and more of herself and more and more of her autonomy. The end game.
