So at this point in time I really should be sleeping knowing that I have to get up early to go to work in the morning but I can't help it the thoughts are swirling around my head like whirlpool.
So last night I went to the wedding of a friend of mine that I work with and it just kinda hit me that I've never looked at a child and really thought about the fact that one day they will be a old person who has lived a full life. I was sitting at my table and they started doing all the wedding dances that people do, like father + daughter, mother + son, and the one that really got me was the "who's been married the longest" dance. Now what they do for those that don't know is they have all the married couples come out on to the dance floor and they play a slow love song that's super sappy and then progressively couples are asked to leave the dance floor based on how long they have been married. This continues until only the couple that has been married the longest is left and then generally they are asked their secret to a long and happy marriage. But anyways, I'm sitting at my table and I'm watching this dance (as I'm way not married and thus barred from dancing) when the couple that had won announced that they had been married for 64 years. It was this very old pair of people that could only move slowly and with very short steps, but what really struck me was the way they looked at each other. When the old gentleman looked at his wife his eyes shined and the corners of his mouth tucked up almost instantly. When I saw that look in his eyes I knew that I hope to have that feeling and caring for someone someday who also reciprocates those feelings.
Not to get to far way from my initial point, being a wedding of a couple of about 40 there were many children running around as many of their friends were in their 40s as well and many had families. So right after the "longest married" dance the elderly couple who had been together for 64 years decided that they wanted to do one more dance together and had the dj put on an Elvis song that had actually been the first song that they had dance together to at their wedding. So many of the people at the wedding went out to dance and when I saw the children dancing around this old couple it struck me that some day they may be in the same place that the old couple was in.
Those kids were going to grow up and they would go through school. They will get jobs and they will got out to find people that they can fill their lives with. After everything was said and done they would be old too and maybe I'm crazy but that just kinda hit me with the "you've gotta give everything you've got" stick. It was weird and interesting.
