This is not a blog for or against any political candidate. This is simply human decency.
I read today and saw the video of a man stomping on the head of another human being at a political debate in Kentucky. At that moment, all the similar actions of the past 234 years, those borne of hatred, of intolerance, of prejudice, came screaming in, and I became ashamed of what we have allowed this nation to become.
Our founding fathers, in an extraordinary document, declared the basic freedoms of their fellow man (man in this case used as the neutral, referring to the human race). "That all men are created equal, and . . . endowed with certain inalienable human rights . . . . that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
This man, who felt so strongly and turned his brain off, stepped all over that document, putting it beneath his heel, and spitting on the ideals of the men who fought, bled, and died for the freedoms they set down over two centuries ago. The First Amendment guarantees us the freedom of speech and expression, and this man stomped on the head of someone exercising that right, and depriving the woman under his heel of her own liberty and pursuit of happiness, and very possibly attempting to deprive her of life by stomping on her head and neck (albeit probably not deliberately trying to kill her).
As an American, I am ashamed of this man's actions. That one of my own countrymen could come to such thoughtless actions in complete disregard for basic human decency is appalling to me, and should be as well to any of you who also count yourself among us.
Have we learned nothing? Have we not grown?
The English did this to us when we finally chose to stand up and tell them No More. They did it to my ancestors in Ireland as well. We did it to each other in the Civil War. We did it to the Native Americans. We did it to the Chinese who fled their own oppression and tyranny and who helped to build our railroads. We did it to the black people of American during the Civil Rights movement. We do it to the gays now.
When will it end? WHEN WILL IT END??

PS-- Dunno if you saw my comment on your previous blog, as you were likely composing this one when I posted it, but I am really grateful for your comment yesterday. Thank you.
