I am appalled that there are those now using the tragedy of the Arizona shootings as a hammer with which to pummel their opponents and attempt to convince you that their side is right, and the other wrong.
The only thing wrong here is that there are families shattered and friends bereft, mothers and fathers whose hearts have been eviscerated, and a nation shaking its collective head.
I recently told another SG member here that the only truth is in the head of the young man who bought a gun and went to that place and started firing. And once the defense team gets to him, that truth, too, will be lost.
My plea is that the preachers and the media talksters and the politicos and the I-told-you-so-ers just stop. Let the human loss in this be mourned, and the wounds tended to by tears and and familial support. If this terrible event truly was done for a political reason, then the only thing that can possibly be accomplished by further policital commentary on it is to enflame passions even more.
Now is the time to bridge the gaps between us, to find the common ground that SHOULD be compassion and concern and thought for the victims' families, friends, and companions. Find a way to end the hate, and dispel the fear that breeds it. Now is the time to shed the light of truth upon the darkened corners of our culture and cast out the disease of prejudice and discrimination, the crimes against our fellow members of the human race, and finally see that we are all one people.
Tonight my prayers and thoughts are with those who have been left to mourn this senseless loss of life, and for those who still struggle to maintain life. Set aside your rhetoric, your altruism, and your self righteousness, and come together to mourn the wound in our nation.
And for God's sake, please, let the healing begin.

A sincere "Amen" from this corner--thank you very much for making a point that really needs to be made.
