Pygmy has tagged me to write 20 Interesting Things About Myself. Not five minutes before I discovered this, I was wondering "Will I ever be tagged?"

1. I'm an alcoholic in recovery. When I say "In Recovery" I mean it. It almost killed me...liver damage, nerve damage, memory and cognitive disfunction; pissing, shitting, and puking blood. All the classics. I drank heavily for 18 years, the last 10 VERY heavily. At least a 12 pack and a half of beer a day, plus what I drank at the bar after work, usually 8 or 9 pints. On my days off, a case and a half of beer and whatever I drank at the bar. It didn't matter what it was, if it was booze, I drank it. In very, very large quantities. It became my life.
I couldn't keep a job. I snuck away to drink at lunch. I lost the woman I loved more than anyone or anything else in life because of drinking. I stole money from my family to buy booze. I sold everything of value I owned to buy booze...I was down to my last nerve in every way when I stopped. I quit of my own accord, and except for the occasional "Gee...I'd love a beer" I haven't looked back. My life is immeasurably better because of my alchoholic sobriety. It's been three years now, and life is only getting sweeter.
2. I smoke pot whenever I can get it. As much as AA helped me in my early sobriety, I had to distance myself from the program because pot smoking is "frowned upon".
3. The first time I smoked after I quit drinking, I was terrified of the "gateway" effect. Bullshit. If anything, being stoned helped me look at my situation in a clearer light. I love weed, and don't smoke nearly as much as I would like to. If you live near me, and smoke...lets.
4. I'm a master apprentice Reiki energy worker. If you don't know what this is, imagine the energy of TaiChi times about 100. Instead of body movements, we use symbols to direct the energy. Reiki is eons old, and is used worldwide as a system of enlightenment and healing. It's even being used in more and more hospitals, such as Columbia Presbyterian, to treat, among other things, tissue and organ rejection, and to speed up post-op healing.
5. My Reiki master is a woman 18 years older than myself. We were in a romantic relationship as I was learning, and our break-up is why I haven't made master level yet. We're in the process of reconcilliation, working toward a loving friendship, and helping each other to the next step in our autonomous personal and spiritual lives.
6. I've required corrective lenses since I was six years old.
7. I'm a self-taught painter and sculptor. I was accepted into the Atlanta College of Art when I was 21, but my work was more advanced than many of the seniors and much of the staff, so I declined, and set out on my own.
8. I've been in several art shows, mainly in art auctions to support AIDS charities, and at this point most of my sales have been to private collectors, paintings going for upward of $2,000.
9. I'm a self-taught poet. I studied at the public library, the local bookstore, and by surfing the internet. I dislike live readings (somewhat, not a rule) and have only taken part in two. One, I crashed the local community colleges' reading at a local coffee shop...and two, Atlanta Peace Poets winter reading in '04.
10. I can fake my way successfully on just about any instrument I pick up. I don't play other people's music.
11. I took a break from painting for 6 years to play in an improv. recording project that never took off in any real way, as far as the general public is concerened.
12. I almost never listen to music unless I feel like playing music. Which is rare, these days.
13. I was born in Georgia, but raised in Texas. We moved back when I was 15, on a whim. A really bad idea that's just now working out for the best.
14. I have a complex phobia about driving an automobile. I've never had a drivers license.
15. I love cats. Like they're related to me by blood.
16. I love dogs, but it's different.
17. I pride myself on being a wonderful amateur cook.
18. I love, love, love SEX...but go for long periods in celibacy.
The longest was 5 years. This will not happen again.
19. I dropped out of highschool. Twice.
20. I have a very solitary nature. I need a lot of alone time to work, and as a consequence I get very, very lonely sometimes...but rarely seek to do anything about it.

There ya go! If you read all it, I love ya!
If ya didn't, I love ya anyway!
Whoever shall I tag....?????

I think of the virginity as a good thing as well; I've seen sex make people's lives a misery more often than not. And I think people's "easy" attitudes to it are a real hindrance to people forming solid lasting relationships.
I.
I don't have a driver's license either.
I think it's Lili taylor
kitties are so cute. never met a non-cute kitty. 'cept that stray that latched onto my arm when i was a kid, but i guess that's not fair.. 'cause the only reason i got near him was because he was cute.
