It's been a few weeks but nothing's really happened since my last post.
Having come back from my two week break, I came back to work to find that the nightmare I thought would be resolved in those two weeks had in fact grown legs. Needless to say, work has been pretty hectic.
I went another country walk this weekend with some friends. I really wish I had a camera beyond my phone as some of the views were truly breathtaking. One of the benefits of living in Scotland is that you don't need to travel far from either of the main cities to find some absolutely stunning landscapes.
This week we got the train to Arrochar. The plan was to walk to the dam at Loch Sloy, walk back to Arrochar and then watch the Old Firm game. We got off the train at 9:30 - the game would start at 12:30.
We didn't get to the foot of the dam until 12:30. We then let our desire to catch some of the game get the better of our judgement. We decided not to climb up the slight hill to get to the top of the dam (to see what I can only assume would be a glorious span of water surrounded on all sides by beautiful green hills).
Instead we decided we would try to go somewhere other than Arrochar to try to catch the second half of the football. We walked to Inveruglas to find that all it had was a coffee shop - no pub - no football.
We then opted to walk to Tarbet which was a few miles down the road. Unfortunately there was no footpath to Tarbet so we ended up walking on the main road - not a good idea when the road has lots of S-bends.
We did eventually get to Tarbet (at around 4pm - 1 1/2 hours after the game was over). My feet were killing me, me legs were aching, I was starving.
At least Tarbet had a bar (inside a hotel) which allowed us to grab a quick pint before heading off to a delightful restaraunt that had been styled to cater to the tourists (it was a converted church that had been decorated with lots of medieval furniture and the menu had lots of haggis - including Haggis Pizza!!!). Got a fantastic steak pie and a few more pints before heading for the train.
All in all, it was a great day - but in future, we need to stick to the path and not follow any stupid desire to watch a crappy game of football (I'm a Rangers fan so I'm glad I missed the game - especially since my friends are Celtic fans and they would have so rubbed it in my face).
In a couple of weeks we're planning to walk from Drymen to Milngavie which is on the West Highland Way route. Should be another great day especially since there should be more of us there.
Other than that, I've not got much to say. I keep on meaning to go to the cinema but never seem to get round to going - I really want to see Little Miss Sunshine. I guess it's tough always going to see movies on your own.
