I deal with a lot of activists these days. Most of the time, I see that they're into yelling about radical politics because they feel the whole world is wrong. I imagine a good percentage are people who were depressed/feeling inferior in the first place, and the activism/politics gives them something to feel important about (and give a sense of superiority, since everyone else is a sheep but them, of course).
I found out today that my ex from 5 years ago, who I've had an odd friendly relationship with since then, is engaged. Not that this is a bad thing... but today I find myself caring about radical politics and my writing above all else.
