You end up asking yourself at some point, "whats something I've accomplished that makes me happy, no-matter how insignificant?"
My recent nerdy accomplishment:
This is probably one of the lamest accomplishments in the world, but I'm more impressed with myself for creating a gaming community that operates between different game stores. The short version: there's a tabletop game where you fly space ships from Star Wars and blow each other up (like Warhammer 40,000 but cheaper and less irritating).
I built a community of players around a Facebook group, rather than a single game store. That's actually incredibly rare. The idea was to have a member at each store in the area that acts as a representative and promotes their events. Through them we make sure that nobody schedules over each other for events like tournaments. Again, this never happens; most stores are very possessive of their players base. Through our group, players are exposed to all the players in the area, not just the ones at one particular store. As a result, the community has grown significantly for such a new game, with 200 in the group and about 50 active players. We've set up weekly game nights at 6 different stores in the Philly and South Jersey regions. We've also usually got a tournament or other event scheduled every weekend between a few stores in Jersey.
TL;DR: I brought a lot of nerds together to play a game.
Is there anybody out there?
