DoOOOoooOOoOOoood. I'm back and it's been such a long time. A lot has changed in my life over the past year. I got preggo's (like really preggo's), I had an adorable daughter (Amelie). I'm not working at U of T anymore. Geordie went back to school and was campaign manager for our friend Desmond who ran in the municipal election and they had a great campaign. I've moved like a billion times and I fianlly ended up in an amazing apartment. It's so big and bright. The area leaves something to be desired, but It's not awful. We became friends with my midwife and Geordie is actually going to be donating his sperm so she can make a baby with her partner. I very unfortunately had to cut off my dredlocks. My hair just didn't dred back up when I got pregnant becasue my hair grew so damn fast. So I have short pink hair, awaiting the day that I can once again knot up my hair. I gained like 50 lbs with my pregnancy but I am proud to say that I have lost all but 9 lbs of it. I'm hoping to loose an extra 10 on top of that. We'll see.If you'd like to read her birth story (which is as long as an encyclopedia) and look at some pics the website is : www.geocities.com/ameliesbirth .
Lots of things! Amelie is so amazing. She surprises me every day. She always has a smile and makes life all the more wonderful. We have actually been going through quite a bit with her. These past few months have been an emotional roller-coaster for the three of us. On Amelie's 6 week (and final) check-up with Sarah our midwife she noticed quite a loud heart murmur. She suggested that we get it checked right away. That night we went to the kids clinic at St. Joseph's hospital where we met Dr. Lao (who is now Amelie's paediatrician). He was concerned about Amelie and quickly got us an appointment at sick kids with the paediatric cardiology ward. In a few days we had an appointment where they gave her an ECHO ( which is a ultrasound of the heart) and an ECG. They found that she had a hole between her ventricles that was a medium size. But they were not too concerned with that. That were concerned that Amelie had a part of her Aorta that was narrower than it was supposed to be. At first her cardiologist Dr. Gross said that she would be needing open heart surgery within the next few days to weeks. This was devastating for us. He had another look at her test results and he decided that they weren't as bad as he thought. He told us he would go over them with the other cardiologist's and the surgeons and he would give us a call that night to let us know what they as a team had decided. So he called that night and said that they all felt comfortable leaving it alone for a while. They said that if she can make it to 3 months without any symptoms of heart failure that she would be in a safer zone. And also that they would maybe be able to do another procedure called a catheter balloon which is a tiny nik in her groin area in which they feed a very small tube with a camera and a balloon at the end. Once they get to where they need to stretch they blow up the balloon a little bit and then remove it (SO AMAZING). Anyway, we have been going there from every week to two weeks since she was 7 weeks old and she turned 3 months on December 13th. HOORAY. We had an appointment in mid December and they will be able to do the catheter balloon which is amazing news. Because she is doing so well they said that it is not an emergency and they So she's actually getting her heart fixed on Valentines day. We will only have to say over 1 night in the hospital as opposed to 2 weeks to a month. We are so pleased by this news. Although it's still a little scary it's much better than we anticipated in the beginning.
Other than this crazy business we have really enjoyed being parents. She's such a peach. It's impossible not to fall in love with her. Do you think I'm a little bias? It's funny, I believe it was my mother-in-law that said the first time Amelie had a cold it would be very stressful for me. We went strait to the open heart surgery. I think I'm prepared for anything. Well I think I should end this novel because Amelie just went to sleep which means that I should be sleeping. Her sleep habits have changed over the past month not to my advantage, but it's slowly getting better. Anyway, time is of the essence. Tah Tah.
