Hello, Everyone! For those of you attending San Diego Comic-Con (July 21st-25th), stop on by "The Rare Breed Gallery" booth (tables F3 and F4) and say hello. Some friends and I will be selling sketchbooks, original artwork, and various prints. I will have my sketchbook, titled "MYTH: the Art of Theseus". It features sketches and artwork for my upcoming graphic novel. I hope to see you there!

Hey there, SG!

How is everyone doing? I well. I'm popping on here to give another plug for a friend of mine, Miss Monster. Do you like Monsters...do you like fuzzy stuff? Well then check this out.

He's called Uncle Dapper. She just received a large order and is looking to sell as many as she can. wink If you him, go to her site and pick up this dashing fellow.

Check out her other stuff, too! She does some really great work that I think you'll love!

Take it easy!

Hello Everyone!

It's been a while since I posted, and I'm sorry about that. I have a lot of people to catch up with. eeek I already noticed 10 of my friends left me blackeyed I am going to have to do some massive damage control in the hopes I can get them back.

One of reasons I've been M.I.A. is this:

My cartoon series!

I'm producing it ALL by myself, so it's been very time consuming. On top of that, I am also working on two, VERY SWEET, projects that I can't wait to tell you about...but not just yet. wink

Another reason I haven't been around was because I was in California. L.A. and San Diego, to be exact. I didn't have access to a computer most of that time, so it was hard to keep up with everyone's journals.

While I was promoting the cartoon at the San Diego Con, I saw this amazing booth for Tim Burton's the Corpse Bride. And I thought I'd share...

Overall, it was a great trip. I got to see a lot of friends I haven't hung out with in years. I made quite a few industry connections. It was very productive and fun. I look forward to the next time I head out that way.

BUT NOW, I want to get back to all of you. So please, don't give up on me! I swear I will make an effort. I hope you will talk back too! smile kiss

Talk to you soon!

Hello y'all! What's up?

I told you Batman Begins was awesome. I don't know one person that saw it and was disappointed. Not a one! wink

Well, anyway...I've been jam packing the creativity lately. Working some hardcore hours doing illustration work and animation. Now, I've managed it down to one job and my personal work. Still, it's a ton of work, AND that with my regular job and the fact I am going on a vacation in July....phew. Busy, busy, busy. smile I'd rather be busy than not, though.

I'm putting together 2 websites, one for my work, and one for my cartoon series. As soon as I get them up, you all have to check it out and tell me what you think. Then pimp those links to everyone you know! biggrin

Also, I have several illustrations I own my friends here on SG, Maxi especially. Also Morgan, Gadget, Denver, and BoyGeorgeIsMyMom. I haven't forgotten about you. kiss

And now, it's time for...

Sliggy's Movie Reviews

George A. Romero's Land of the Dead

In the 4th installment to George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" series, the zombies have taken over the earth. This new tale depicts a harrowing vision of a modern-day world where the walking dead roam an uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead "normal" lives behind the walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a handful of enterprising, ruthless opportunists, who live in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the hard-scrabble existence on the streets below. But outside the city walls, an army of the dead is evolving. Inside, anarchy is on the rise. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead.

With the exception of the "Dawn of the Dead" remake, and "Shaun of the Dead", there really haven't been many good zombie movies lately. And lets face it, more and more are popping up these days (with more yet to come!) Well, I never had any doubt the father figure of the genre would pull through and deliver a great movie. If you dig the other 3 of the series, then Land is definately worth seeing. The storyline continues to evolve, just like the zombies themselves. Yeah, they're dead, they're all messed up. But, now they're learning, people. What started with Bub in Day of the Dead has grown among them all. Riley (Simon Baker) and Charlie (Robert Joy) do a great job. They pull there characters off well, and are convincing. Slack (Asia Argento) looks incredible, as always. She does a good job of acting, too, even if her accent slips in an out occassionally. I am willing to forgive her wink love Ahem....anyway...the three of them make a solid team, only to be met up with Pillsbury (Pedro Miguel Arce) who I thought was hilarious. And not in a silly slapstick kinda way, but dry/dark humor kinda way. These four fight there way through zombie infested cities to get back the Dead Reckoning, a heavily armored vehicle designed for smashing zombies and retreiving supplies, from Cholo (John Leguizamo). John does an excellent job. I have to say it's been a while since I saw him do anything I enjoyed, but this performance was really good. His character has been doing the dirty work for Kaufman (Dennis Hopper) for years and was seriously ticked off when he wasn't allowed to join the elite in the ritzy skyscraper owned by Kaufman. Dennis is Dennis, what else needs to be said? He has some great scenes, one in particular that made me laugh outloud in the theater because it was so warped. In fact, there are a few funny scenes in the movie, just because of the dark warped humor. And what kinda zombie movie would it be without 2 very important things: Social commentary and a leading African American Hero. This time around, I feel the commentary was definately about social classes, ignoring serious problems, and greed. And I could have sworn I saw a direct comment on our current politcal party and Iraq. Now, you'll say, isn't the hero Riley? Well yes, for the humans. Bring on Big Daddy (Eugene Clark), zombie extraordinaire! As I mentioned before, the zombies are getting it together now, and Big Daddy's to the rescue. There are so many character zombies in this movie, some we see very often throughout the flick. One in particular, Number 9 (Jennifer Baxter) is dressedup in a softball outfit. Is it wrong to think a zombie's hot? Could you imagine the diseases you'd get from that?! SHEESH! I don't want to say too much, even though I probably said too much already! You have to see the movie. Great make-up, excellent gore (even though I really wanted more, I'm such a troll! Those with piercings will appreciate one scene in particular, heh, heh! tongue ), great characters, fantastic effects, dark and creepy (even I, Sliggy the unshakable, jumped a couple times).

I'M BACK, BABY!!!! tongue

For those that asked, YES, I am still alive. Yes it's been a long time since I've been on this site and posted a new journal, and for that I apologize! But I have a good excuse that involves gypsies, an alien invasion, time travelling mishaps, and fending of legions of the undead....but enough about me, how are all of YOU!?

I have a ton of journals to look up and get updated on everyone. It will take me a while, so any help you want to give me would be much appreciated. Just a heads up, is all I'm looking for, and let me know how you've been. biggrin

Seriously, folks, I have been mega busy with freelance work, racing around and such. I haven't had a lot of time to be on the journals. But I do miss all of you and I really want to catch up with you all. kiss

And for those impatient suckers that canceled our friendship...
mad , I'll find you little punks, you can be sure of it. wink Geez, disappear for a month and a half and people start ditching ya. What gives?

In other news, New Jersey was FUNtastic! I had a blast! Everyone there was great. The whole wedding was full of characters, so it was really really wild. Plus, the groom's father is an ex cop, so we didn't have to worry about being to loud and obnoxious. Kick ASH! wink

Next, I fly to L.A. on the 8th of July. So anyone in that area send me an email, cause I WANT TO MEET YOU! I'll be there till the 13th, then I head down to San Diego until the 17th. So anyone there during those times, you gotsta let me know, ok?! ooo aaa I'm hanging out with a ton of friends while I am there, but there is always room for more. It's gonna be crazy.

And now, I proudly present: Sliggy's Movie Reviews

STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH

It has been three long years since the Clone Wars have first begun, and Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) have fought as hard as they possibly could. When the capital planet of Coruscant becomes under attack by the Separatist droid armies and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) is kidnapped by the army leader, General Grievous (voiced by Matthew Wood), Anakin personal problems begin to develop, including his anger at the Jedi Council for not giving him the rank of Master, though he is on the council, and his plagued visions of his secret wife, Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman), dying in childbirth. He is determined to do anything to save her, no matter the cost. While Obi-Wan is sent to kill General Grievous on Utapau, Anakin is taken under Palpatine's wing, being subtly seduced by the Dark Side of the Force and convince that the Dark Side is power than can save his wife from death. Soon enough, a new, darker, ominous figure that would eventually be feared by the entire galaxy is formed: Lord Darth Vader. Obi-Wan, discovering Anakin's betrayal, sees no choice but to face his own apprentice in an attempt to bring back the young, loyal Jedi that had been like his own son, brother, and friend.

Over all, I liked it. I thought it was much improved upon than the last 2 movies. It was darker, as it should be. As always, the music, special effects, and production design are fantastic! But, the dialog still needed some work. I am refering mostly to poor Natalie Portman, for the most part. Granted, there wasn't much that she had to do in this picture except pop out the twins and die, but the few lines they gave her were not quotable, by any means. How many times was Lucas going to have her say "love" anyways? Very corny dialog for her. I picked up the production art book for ROTS, and there was a plot developed by the art team that had Padme try to assasinate Anakin (there is a drawing of her with a dagger walking up to him on Mustafar. The idea was that she realized he had turned evil and she was the only one he trusted enough to get that close to him and stop him. I thought that would have been a nice touch to the film, but thay left it out. It would have provide better grounds for him to force choke the shit out of her, but whatever. According to the Art book, Han Solo almost made it into the movie, which I am glad he didn't. It would have been completely pointless. Which is kinda how I feel about throwing in Chewbacca. Sure, I love the walking carpet as much as the next person, but it was nothing but a name drop and completely unnecessary. Chewie didn't even do anything, I didn't even realize it was him. Without sounding racist, don't all wookies look the same? tongue My last and final gripe was I thought the Emperor was borderline comical than intimidating, but that's just me. Things I did like alot were the fight between the Emperor and Yoda, the absence of Jar Jar, some pretty cool lightsaber fights, and overall better acting from Hayden C.

BATMAN BEGINS

A new restart of the "Batman" franchise under the helm of "Memento" Director Chris Nolan and more in tone with the early "Batman: Year One" style comics. As a boy a young Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his millionaire parents were slain in front of his eyes, a trauma which led him to become obsessed with revenge but his chance is cruelly taken away from him by fate. After disappearing to the East where he seeks counsel with the dangerous but honorable ninja cult leader known as Ra's Al-Ghul, he returns to his now decaying Gotham City overrun by organised crime and dangerous individuals manipulating the system whilst the company he inherited is slowly being pulled out from under him. The discovery of a cave under his mansion, and a prototype armoured suit leads him to take on a new persona, one which will strike fear into the hearts of men who do wrong - he becomes, Batman. In the new guise, and with the help of rising cop Jim Gordon, Batman sets out to take down the various nefarious schemes in motion by individuals such as mafia don Falcone, the twisted doctor/drug dealer Jonathan 'The Scarecrow' Crane, and a mysterious third party that is quite familiar with Wayne and waiting to strike when the time is right.

FUCKING A!!!!!!!!! This is how Batman was meant to be. This movie fucking Rocked! I saw the midnight show, last night, and it was unbelievable. Actually, it was very believable, which what makes it work, I think. A very intelligent script that doesn't play down to the audience and make the dialog filled with exposition. The characters allow the audience to put things together and not give a play by play of what's happening. Characters don't scream out, "Oh my god, that's hot boiling acid!" Really, Einstein, the steam and sizzling noises didn't give it away. No, folks, none of that crap. This film explains, in an intelligent manner, the how and why Batman does what he does, and the where and how he gets all those wonderful toys. And everything has a plausible purpose, nothing is just for the sake of a cool effect. I think that is what made the film for me. All of it, from the villians to the batmobile, it all seemed to be something that could actually happen. Scarecrow was awesome. It could have been a disaster, but they did the character incredibly well, considering what they had to work with ( a guy in a scarecrow outfit). And he wasn't kooky, he was creepy. Cillian Murphy did an excellent job playing the demented psychologist. Christian Bale is by far, the best Bruce Wayne/Batman ever! How he portrayed the difference in characters was excellent. A careless and drunken billionaire without responsibility, to a driven and disciplined defender of the innocent. Michael Caine makes a great Alfred, adding light humor and heart to the film, without being overplayed and corny. I have to say, I liked every character in the film. EVERYONE of them! I can't wait for the next one, and trust me....there will be another one, as you'll see at the end. Great plot twists, great story, great effects, superb acting.

New Simpsons episodes = Pretty damn funny

BRAND NEW Family Guy = Fucking hilarious!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

I was really looking forward to it, and it really made my day!

Did anyone else catch it?

UPDATE

Man, ever read a journal and it just pissed you off to no end? What do you do: comment and speak your mind, or just ignore it? Ultimately, their comments have nothing to do with me. It's the mentality, the principle that I have a problem with. I used to love everyone on SG, but this person is beginning to disgust me.

On to happier news...

My sister sent this to me as a late birthday gift:

It had all the dvds and a little Gir toy inside! F-N-A, dude! I just got it tonight! Yee-Haw!!! biggrin

I'm heading to Newark, New Jersey on May 19th-22nd. My buddy is getting married that weekend. If anyone of you folk are going to be around that area, or close by, I would like to meet you, if I can. There's a good chance we'll hit Manhattan and party in the city, too. Send me an email if you are interested! wink

Hello everyone! How is everybody?

This week, starting tonight, I am making it a point to go down my friend list and talk to everyone. I haven't contacted some of you in a looooong time, and for that I apologize. So, I am going to take 20 at a time, each day, and say something to you all.

I already started, alphabetically, with the first 20 people on my friends list. If I didn't get to you tonight, hold your horses, I'll be there soon! kiss

If you have anything you want me to particularly comment on in your journal, please let me know!

I will also look at random journals too, but I want to make it a point to visit all of my friends! Aint I a swell guy? wink

Now for those that asked about what I did on my birthday, I will post that in my next journal. Mainly because I am tired and in great need of sleep. biggrin

In the meantime, enjoy this...
