I was impressed with the opening ceremonies. I like the Russian national anthem; it's a rather epic anthem. The blend of modern tech and old school props was nice.
Several things really struck me namely how small some countries are. Morocco has 30,500 people. That would be a small city where I'm from. And how some countries only had 1 person representing.
Being from the US I'm used to us being loud and being leaders everywhere (don't know how that's going to sound to everyone not from the US) but the 1 guy from Nepal (only non-rectangular flag) predicted he was going to place last in his event (cross country ski). This really struck me because I realize that the vast majority of the competitors don't have a hope getting a medal but that's not the point. They're competing and representing their country and what one hell of an experience that must be.
So let's keep the fucking politics out of it and hopefully it will be a fun and safe games.
GO USA!!!!!
