This past week was an adventurous one, as my company sent me out to the state of Tennessee. A co-worker and myself were tasked with going to one of our vendors and sorting out what we wanted and what we didn't. I am always fascinated to go into another company's warehouse so I can see how they do things and see how far off my company is from the standard. To tell the truth, their warehouse looked a lot like mine, just bigger. Lots bigger. So I guess we are doing things right and are on the right path.
There wasn't a whole lot of time for sight seeing, and I was at the whim of my co-worker, as he was the one that rented the car. I couldn't drive it due to my indiscretions from previous driving infractions, so more or less, I was tethered to wherever he wanted to go.
It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, as we got out and played some disc golf. That was pretty neat, as TN has some very gorgeous courses out there. We played at Cedar Hill and Crocket Park. As stated before, both were absolutely insanely beautiful courses, and frustratingly difficult. Of course, my throw was off as we had dropped in elevation from 6000 feet to 600 feet. That tends to mess with the flight of the disc and so I was having a bit of a time with it. However, no matter how poorly I did, I was pleased at the fact that I was adding another course to my belt.
The rest of the trip was a bit meh as we didnt get to get out, except for the last day. We got out and walked around downtown Nashville and took in the sights. We didnt go into the bars as my coworker wasnt sure how the alcohol would effect him and I've been working on 19 months sobriety.
Speaking of, there was many times I was wanting to drink while there. I managed to stay dry the entire time but the restaurants had some very tasty looking beverages that I almost broke down and indulged in. I just dont think I can trust myself to drink quite yet, so I chose to abstain. Maybe next time, maybe next time...
Some other quick notes:
The beard is coming along rather well. The only thing that disturbs me is that aside from a few comments from girls here on SG, all the other compliments I have gotten from on the beard are from guys. It makes me start to rethink my orientation. To borrow a line from Louis CK, I think maybe I'll do the back half gay. I played the front straight, maybe do the back gay. I dunno, penises are icky, imo. So I guess the third option is to embrace my asexuality and hope science comes up with a way to reproduce that way. *shrugs* this is depressing... moving on. Here's the beard:
I tormented my FB friends with constant rants about the driving conditions in TN. Here they are:
"You ever see how kids drive go karts? That's how people in TN drive. I know I've complained about this, at great lengths, but these people make me want to fly, and I hate flying with a passion."
"While in TN, you must never use a blinker, never let anyone in, and always ride the ass of the car I'm front of you. Yknow be like NASCAR."
"Dude, its no joke. They speed, red lights aren't real, and the turn lanes mean turning is optional. "
Seriously, they can't drive. We tried to turn into a Kroegers but someone used the turn lane as a merge lane and we almost got into a header. Every car has at least a little bit of a scuff or another cars paint on their bumper, and I saw easily 10 tow trucks carrying a totaled car off somewhere. But their Kia dealership has a ferris wheel, so thats cool.
The women out in TN... they are pretty durn attractive. Well, at least the ones working as servers in the restaurants we frequented were pretty. Then again, I am a sucker for brunettes, and I was in another state, so I had on some pretty biased glasses. I am sure if I lived there, I'd feel the same way about them as I do about Colorado women. Still... they were nice.
This trip was apparently about confronting my fears. I am a huge control freak so while my partner was driving the car, I was always looking for the imaginary passenger side break. By the end of the trip, I was relaxed in the car and wasnt afraid of dying. Or maybe I had been broken down to the point where my fear no longer affected me. I am not sure on this one.
I also had to overcome my fear of flying, another one of those dying things. Both plane trips were smooth as smooth can be, and I think I am slowly coming around on that one. Maybe next time, I won't cry when the plane takes off and yelp out a very audible WOOHOO when it lands. Maybe.
TN has a lot of daddy long legs, or at least the warehouse we were at had a lot of them. We'd open a box to search through the items and sure enough, there'd be at least one or two in there. And they were huge suckers. So I dont think I fear spiders so much anymore. I wasnt the kind that got up on a table or started screaming whenever I saw a spider but there was a spike of fear and apprehension, now, not so much.
Anyway, I had a great time and I am looking forward to getting sent out of state again. The next time I go tho, I am packing my Bose headphones, so no more crying baby. And I am packing my nice camera so that I can get pictures. Plus finding away around town even when my coworker doesnt want to go out.
