I'm one of few people that can say "i've found my passion in life." I'm one of the lucky ones and I cherish that.
My passion is baking. It gives me the feeling like life is complete and things are the way they should be. Baking is that one thing in life that makes my heart smile. Baking is my zen.
I've been baking since I first knew how to use an oven. It started with box mixes. Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines, Jiffy. Took me a while to master those, then I gradually moved on to recipes from scratch. And I wasn't fortunate enough to have a grandmother or mother who always cooked to show me how. I'd get bored or hungry, grab a box of brownie mix or whatever else was in the pantry, follow the directions and cross my fingers hoping it turned out good (or should i say well? that always confuses me...but anyways...).
In middle school I'd bake cupcakes for my own birthdays just because I wanted to bake them. In high school i'd go to my boyfriend's house and bake for him and his friends. Little did know I that these moments were key factors in my current happiness.
How did I come to realize it was my passion? Well about 4 years ago I went through an incredibly deep depression. I was at the point where I felt so lost in life. I was also at the point of hitting rock bottom. But in the words of J. K. Rowling "Rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life."
I was tired of being unhappy and asked myself "what will make you happy?" I thought back and those memories of baking came to mind. That's when I decided I would do any and everything in my power to go to culinary school to learn proper baking skills (As i like to say, if you're gonna do something, do it right or don't do it at all).
I had a lot of things (personal matters) to take care of before I could go back to school. I even ran into what I felt were roadblocks. (Note: Things are only roadblocks if you give up.
