Just what I needed. I nice, event free weekend. No traveling out of town, no schoolwork, nothing. I did cut the grass for (hopefully) the last time until spring, but other than that, I just watched a lot of football and soccer and hung around with my jammies on. I needed it! Hopefully my batteries are recharged and I can make it until the end...

ah, yes, relaxation... how I miss it! You seem to be looking forward to the end of the semester, and I wish I could turn the clock back, forestalling all of my "oh crap! this is due when??" dates. eeek

Well, things are improving a bit. The initial shock of the robbery is over. We've contacted the police and insurance, and hopefully everything will be back to normal soon. Neither one of us is still terribly pleased, but we're coping okay. And when the insurance check comes, we'll be sure to go on a shopping spree.

I've been out of town three weekends in a...

God, I'm so sorry about the robbery. I haven't been robbed, but when we lived in another area I was videotaped (fully clothed!) through our blinds by a peeping tom/rapist/drug dealer, and I know the feeling of violation that you get when your home has been invaded like that. And then when you have to deal with all the legal ramifications and hassles that come along with it, it's almost like you're being punished for what someone else did.
Sounds like you're coping well, and retail therapy is quite effective. wink
kitschy:
I am so sorry about you being robbed! We got burgled during the broad daylight (when I was young) while living in a shitty neighborhood. I think they were either neighbors, or lived pretty damn close. The sucky thing was that we barely had anything to steal, we were so broke. Poor people robbing other poor people.

As a young girl with a single mother, the violation was waaayyyyy worse than anything we lost. I totally feel for you and Pravon!

Our home was burglarized this Friday. We're not happy.

The culprits didn't get a lot quantity-wise. They couldn't have been in the house more than 5 minutes. They got in through the front door and headed straight for the bedrooms, went through the doors and closets there, then left. While most of the stuff they got is replaceable, they got my wife's high school class...

Whew. I have seen the light, and it is good! To mix biblical metaphors or something.

First things first--I'm going to get caught up on everyone's blogs, say hello, get re-acquainted, and all that jazz. I've only been on here sporatically for the last four weeks or so, and have had little time to say hello to everyone.

BUT,

Things are slowing down a bit,...

I adore your method. I like Wikipedia as a source, but I think it's important to use it as ONE source of many - especially for statistical type things. Or, maybe as a spring board to get you going in the right direction. But copying and pasting? That's just stupid.

I bet your students don't think you listen to the Scissor Sisters... or have a membership to SG, for that matter. Silly students. I often think back to my old elementary school teachers and try to imagine them listening to the popular music of the day and having sex. I still can't do it, even though I know full well I'll be doing those very things while I'm teaching. Blows the mind.
littlefierceone:
Hey! ... I just wanted to say, er, "hey!" wink and get reacquainted. I'm getting back into the swing myself.

I feel ya with the retarded students. In a class I took earlier in the year, on the discussion board I noticed that someone had posted a Wikipedia page word for word. Alas, the prof' didn't catch it and he got an "A" on the assignment. You're correct that Wikipedia is not a scholarly source, but I like it because it is, in a sense, peer reviewed and the articles do site sources. Just my $0.02. smile

I know, I know. I'm SOOO overdue for a decent update. I'm not quite finished with this huge mound of work in front of me, but I am slowly but surely seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

My manuscript should be done Monday at the latest. It's roughly 4,000 words, which isn't really long in the grand scheme of things, but crunching...

Crazy busy week. So much writing to do, so little time. I have to finish a manuscript and a grant proposal by the end of the month. Plus I'm organizing a campus speaking engagement. And first tests are coming up. This post, therefore, will be brief.

I have a lot of news soon, so stay tuned!

My three-day weekend is going well! I'm catching up on much-needed sleep, as I've been staying up too late during work days as my body still returns to normal after a nuts-o summer. But no alarms for me this weekend, unless my parents, inlaws, or salesmen decide to call me in the morning. Let's hope not.

Football season has started--Vandy played dreadfully and lost to...

Another week has come and gone. Time flies when you're having fun. I'm going to try to get a little better with updates. The SGNC get-together to celebrate SouthernBelle's birthday has injected me with a little life, as my SGNC friends always tend to do. Thumbs up to kriss, not_tom, nyssa, Tailin, theyerg, livingoutloud, pavlovsdog, and of...

Well, the first two days of class have come and gone. I've enjoyed my busy and hectic summer, but it does feel good to get back to work and into the swing of things. I'm the undergraduate advisor for the department now, which means that I have to help a lot of panicky students on the first week select what courses they want to take....

There are many flavors of Depp, and greasy is just one of them. wink How about squeaky-clean 21 Jump Street/Cry-Baby Depp, or longhaired Gilbert Grape Depp?
(My personal preferences are Cry-Baby, Don Juan deMarco, Ninth Gate, and Sleepy Hollow Depp.)
So who would it be then? biggrin

Okay. I'm not antipatriotic. I'm not unconcerned about terrorism. But these new restrictions on airline travel are, at least IMHO, whack. Some of the things we are no longer are allowed to bring on places seems silly.

Any baby toys with gel inside?
Bottled Water?
Soft Drinks?
Pefume?

Thank god they're still allowing insulin for diabetics, and four ounces of liquid medicine.

At last, the traveling for the summer is over, and I have nine days or so to catch up on things here at home before school starts up.

Chicago was a teriffic trip. We went to Wrigley Field, which, if you are a baseball fan, is one of the Meccas that you must visit before you die. The game the night before had been rained...
