Okay so I actually am going back on a lot of shit that I said about this film. Originally I wasn't going to see it because of how bad the trailers were. I was so excited when this was first announced because of the all female team. I was stoked to see a Ghostbusters with an all female cast, that excitement faded after the trailers. Well after those trailers I shunned the film and would not see it at all, until a friend convinced me. My friend Alex who is a huge Ghostbusters nerd told me to ignore the hate and actually see the film (he's seen it twice). Well sure enough I LOVED IT!!!!!!! So I went in with the lowest of expectations but with an open mind and I have to say the movie was a lot of fun. Is it a movie you'll remember in a week? No. Is it as good as the original 2? No! Is it fun, funny, and charming? YES IT IS! The characters are great especially Holtzmann played by Kate Mckinnon. The movie does enough of it's own thing to make it a reboot and not a remake but it keeps enough of the original flair to still be nostalgic.
The film is not without it's annoying quirks and does at times do some stuff that's a bit lame. For example I was not a fan of Chris Hemsworth's character at all simply because it does not fit who he is as an actor. His character is a dumb guy who does dumb stuff because he's dumb and this film sort of beats that into your head way to many times. After the 10th joke with Chris's character doing something dumb like not answering the phone because he can't find it I got a bit bored with him. The entire cast was great and the cameos from the original Ghostbusters were fun and really cool to see. The villain I thought was a poor choice simply because he seemed a little too "little bitch" for me and I more felt like giving him a wedgie than being scared of him. The Ecto-1 is a nice throwback to the original while still keeping it's own little thing and the Slimer cameo was a pretty nice addition to the film. All in all I loved the film and while it wasn't even in the same universe as the original film in terms of how good it was it was still a fun ride. I say ignore the critics and judge for yourself.
