March of the Vampire Movie Remakes!!
I'll start by saying this....I did not see twilight. I really have no desire. I might watch it on DVD.
Here is the problem. Hollywood sees a market for more vampire movies, and not original properties, mostly reboots. Don't get me started on the abomination that is Lost Boys: The Tribe. Soon, Fright Night will be on the big screen. I love the original with Roddey McDowall Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, and Amanda Bearse (yes, Marcy from Married with Children). Roddy and Chis made that movie special. I thought that would be the end of it. But nooooooo, her comes a reboot or movie version of Buffy, minus Joss Whedon. I nearly broke my neck after shaking my head in disbelief. Joss must audition like all the other writers. The original movie was campy with Donald Sutherland, Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry, Paul Rubens and Rutger Hauer. Joss elevated the story and gave us something between a soap opera and comedic horror without treating us like morons.
I want to give Hollywood the benefit of the doubt. Buffy might be in capable hands. Then again, I am speaking of Hollywood. If it is at rest, has a fan base with a pulse, Hollywood will rape it, repackage it, and reap the rewards from the stupid that have no taste.
So, maybe I have two complaints. 1.) Let Joss write and direct the Buffy movie, pay him well and get the fuck out of his way. 2.) Someone come up with an original idea please and stop pillaging the past. Some of the stuff was never meant for a re-boot. Hell, some of the vampire movies should have never been made (pointing at you Subspecies).
Sigh......
