Update: MortgageGate, 2005
So, I set my alarm for 8am. I rolled out of bed at 8:15 armed only with an account statement from 2001.
I called Chase Manhattan Mortgage and spoke to someone who gave me a phone number for lien release. They couldnt find anything so suggested I also call their office in San Diego as well as Bank One.
I call San Diego. Nada. Even less helpful than the other office.
I call back the main customer service line i had for Chase. Got a gentleman who, after a few instances of putting me on hold, got someone on the line who was able to find mom's account.
Unfortunately, we got disconnected halfway into the coversation.
Getting back to this woman or her department or someone who could tell me as much as she could was my mission.
I called back on the main number. Got transfered to lien release. And we're back to square one. no one can find anything. Got a fax number to fax over whatever info I had. Turnaround time could be up to 30 days. I have 13$ to my name. I could pay to have the info faxed or I could buy ramen. Plus we're scheduled to close on the house on thursday.
I continued to call and re-call in hopes I could find my elusive agent who somehow knew all the answers.
I finally spoke to a woman named Sherri who had the brilliant idea of running my mom's credit report in hopes that it had a different / more recent loan number.
Jake (aka, he who lent me $200 so I didnt die from 102 degree fever last month) ordered the 3 reports and sure as shit, Chase Mortgage had sold it to, tada, CHASE MORTGAGE (???) and it had a different loan number.
I called back, gave them the more recent number and huttah!!!!
I gave them the fax number and phone number for my title company. Michelle in lien release said it was normally 24 hour turnaround but she'd make sure it was faxed before close of business.
Remember, I started this process at 8am. Check your watches. It's now 12:39 and I got off the phone less than 10 minutes ago. You do the math.
Keep fingers crossed that this is enough to close on the house
