Today is the last day of my twenties.
Tomorrow I will be a thirty-something, wish me luck.

Turning thirty has put me in a reflective mood.
Unlike alot of people I don't worry about getting older. It's surprising to me just how many people view reaching this age with a wild fear. They seem to break out in sweats at the thought of being beyond...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

yeah, i know what you mean about your b-day being reflective. 30 is like some sort of finish line for people, and hitting 29 brought it up for me. you're right that you're never too late to try your hand at whatever it is that you want to do. biggrin
i'm having trouble with what it is that i want to do too... i have no idea what i really want to do. confused

Hey! I just wanted to stop by and thank you for being a member of the Concerts Group. The Summer Concert Season is almost upon us, so I'd love to have you throw a review into the group if you happen to catch any great (or not-so-great) shows this year. And if you know of anyone who might like the group... send 'em our way. The more the merrier!! Have a great summer! ♥

Some moments in life are absolutely priceless.
This morning I was padding around the house listening to some music.
Bored, and lacking attention my two year old daughter came over and asked me to dance. I agreed.
We turned the volume up.
Picture the scene. Me and my two year, old each with a set of maracas, shaking our booties to London Calling by the...

Dude, dont try and pretend you only did it for Isobel, you take any excuse to get down and rightly so!!biggrinbiggrinbiggrin
zetetic:
that's cool fella. And start 'em young on a steady diet of good music. It's great watching kids getting into music. I used to go around to my mates house and jam. We'd be doing acoustic stuff, not too heavy, not too loud but his baby used to go apeshit when when we used to play. He'd be bouncing around like a loon in his chair. biggrin

Also, I put my bass down once and he crawled over and started tugging away on the strings. My friend was a bit like, oh sorry, thinking about my equipment, and I just thought: let him tug. He's watched us and he's giving it a go. I understand that instruments are expensive and kids should be taught to understand that but its got to be balanced off with just enjoying the physicality of playing. At the end of the day, that's half of what I like about playing the guitar - tugging stings and making a fucking racket!!!!

And that's another great thing about kids. I used to work in this kids nursery when I was younger, like 16 as a summer job. My role was simply to be there as the token male so the kids could jump on my head. But one of the cool things about playing with kids is they don't judge you and they're always 100% about the fun. So you can just let loose. And that's all they want you to do too because then the game's more fun. Although the game always seemed to culminate in them jumping on my head or hitting me over the head with lego blocks - I was with the 1 -2 year olds.

Kids are great and they sure make me laugh biggrin biggrin biggrin

Check it out.
My son was born yesterday at 18.00 exactly.
My wife and I were in hospital for three days for what turned out to be a very long induction process (50 hours total)
The reason we were inducing the baby was to lower the risks of him being affected by a liver condition that my wife was suffering from called "Obstetric Cholestasis"
Despite...

Yeah, you're right about the envious thing and the grass always being greener in one sense. The thing is I am a really independent person and I get pretty snarky when I can't check out bands, go to gigs, do my music, read my books etc. etc. when I want. And I'm pretty aware of that and I know that things come with a price. In many ways I still feel too much of a kid myself.

On the other hand I hit 30 and all of a sudden i started thinking about settling down: wife, kids, career and even started thinking about my future. It wasn't so much a conscious decision as just something that happened to me. And I love kids and it was, as much as anything the look you had of a proud father, and it's something I hope I will get to feel too. wink

Thanks for taking the time to listen to my music. I really appreciate that. As for being mentioned alongside the Dust Brothers, DJ Shadow and Anouar Braham - yeah, that really pisses me off!! biggrin

I take that, if I may, as pretty good compliments and no it's not lame - all things are begged borrowed and stolen. I would never suggest that my music can't be compared to something else. After all those are all guys that I listen to.

Oh and Kudos on the Braham, I love his stuff but I don't know many people who've heard his music.

Well, take it easy fella. Hope you're getting some sleep too. Do you have a name yet?
tos:
You lucky SOB! You get to wear "going out" clothes @ work? Man that rules like you not believe! Who am I to argue though: I don't even have a job yet frown

How's your new baby doing bro? smile

Well, here goes nothing.......
My wife and I have been asked to go in to hospital tomrrow morning at 6.30 am.
The reason for this centres around some complications that my wife has had surrounding her pregnancy.
She is fine and the baby is fine but the desision has been made to play things safe and induce the birth two weeks early.
We've just finished...

Time to update.
I've had some mixed experiences this week.
As you know, ten days ago I was stumbling around in the midst of possibly the worst cold I've had in years. A real bone shaker. The kind that causes you to wake yourself in the night with the sound of your own involuntarily moaning.
Thankfully, I am much better now.
However, my freedom from...

Yeah, I can't believe I overlooked Wolf Eyes. I really like them and they would be perfect for my project, particularly from a technical point of view as their process it pretty fucking DIY!

Thanks for taking the time to read through my stuff and having a think about it.

On that note, and I'm sure you've probably seen it but here are the boys in action:

and also, you seen these goons? I saw you liked the muppets, and, well...I think it speaks for itself!!!! smile

Also, I read your post. First off, glad to hear that your wife and family are ok. Sounds pretty full on.

Also, what sort of band are you in. Anyone I may have heard of?

take it easy
zetetic:
reggae beach parties. Now THAT is a good time. Glad I could bring back some good memories. Keep us informed about the band and good luck with the recording.

And no, I hadn't noticed they all played the guitar left-handed. Well spotted!

take it easy fella

Right now, I do not feel at all well.
I have an incredibly sore throat, my back is killing me and every time I stand up my head wants to leap from my shoulders in a desperate bid to separate itself from my frail and useless body.
I am surviving on cups of sweet tea and small pieces of marmite covered toast.
I feel terrible....

OH man...that's really rough...

Last time I got sick in the UK I was in Leeds. My friend brought me to the local Boots and got me some Beechams Flu caplets. Do they still sell that now? If so, it works loads for me. I was up and "at-em" within 48 hours. The important thing is that you do get mad amounts of rest and drink fluids constantly. It's good to go to the bathroom: Sort of "cleansing" yourself from all the virus. Whatever you do, don't get up before you feel alright to do so. If you're able to see a physician, ask him to call up the local chemist and order you a medicine called Zithromax. It's a super anti-biotic that's 5 capsules. You take 1 the moment you get it, and 1 each of the next 4 days. If it's really bad and you have to resort to that, trust me it'll kill off any buggers in your system that Beechams can't. In any event, I hope you get better bro...no need to apologize about your heath for God's sake! Just get better soon...
m4d5ki11z:
I will be giving your place a wide berth if its all the same to you!! I dont want any of that shit, hope it passes though dude i hate wasting perfectly good sick days on actually being sick thats not what they're for atall!!!winkwinkwink

Groan......
Why is it that whenever you fall off the wagon it's never just a small tumble?
Why does it always have to be a fully-fledged 90 MPH free fall that leaves you face first in the dirt with nothing but your own sense of failure to remind you that you're still a stinking hypocrite loser!
Hahaha!
Apologies, I'm being dramatic again.
Let me put...

Poor Kane.
After just two pints of Stella Artois he has slipped into such a state of intoxication that his friend has to hold open a plastic bag for him as he fills it with sour chunks of vomit.
His other pals look on laughing.
Maybe it wasn't just the drink that made him feel so ill. . By the look of Tim who sits...

The most ordinary day can be transformed by the smallest event.
When the trawl through the usual routine is blessed with a moment of unexpected circumstance it can seem like such a breath of fresh air. It changes your mood and it lifts you.
It's great when it happens, and thank goodness that once in a while it does.
Most of my day today passed...

No, I think people will always have the bit of curiosity. Out of 100 people who would've passed in that very same spot, I bet 99 of them that noticed would've stood there @ least long enough to take in the view. I know I would've and I'd like to think that I have a healthy amount of perversion in my life (anyone who says they aren't perverted @ least a little is a liar!), so I would've soaked in the view long enough to have a mental image. You never know: A few months would pass and she'll come back in your dreams...ravaging you or what not! I'm sure we all have @ least 100 images like these ingrained in our minds ready to be used on any given night of sleep (or daydream!).

Question: How's the curry in your town? One thing I miss about going abroad is getting pissed, then eating curry or fish.

Towns I got pissed & ate curry or fish in:

- London (too many times to list 1989, 1995, 2000, 2002, 2005)
- Sheffield (nice mall...good pubs...hate the hills! 2000)
- Bradford (I've never seen so much curry in my LIFE 2000)
- Leeds (after shopping @ IKEA w/ best friend from Barnsley...for 3 hours!!! 2000)
- Dover (on Teacher's Scotch after graduating high school 1989)
- Edinburgh (w/ my best friend from Barnsley - I know this isn't England 2000)
- Barnsley (that was one helluva time there! 2000)
- Derby (1st English "shag" & seeing Skunk Annansie- 1995)

- Nottingham (after seeing The Mission - 1995)
- Sunderland (after seeing Pop Will Eat Itself - 1995)
- Glascow (this town sucks! 2000)
- Perth (near a gas station 2000)
- Inverness (hot girls! 2000)
- Aberdeen (more hot girls! 2000)

I know there's others, but now my mind's swirling because a whole rush of memories are coming back...now I'm the one inspired mate! smile
m4d5ki11z:
Yeah you are a pervert but in a perfectly healthy curiosity way. Atleast thats what i say when i get busted looking at breasts!! wink

The planet is an interesting place. It seems to be endless mixture of different cultures and personalities.
On one hand, this is a good thing. For example, it is the reason why SG is such a vibrant and inspirational community.
On the other hand, (unfortunately) it is the reason I can no longer leave my house without fear of being set upon by psychotic drunks...

Man!! It doesn't take long for that pleasant feeling we all associate with the party season to swiftly subside. Have I had a stressfull couple of days?!!
Thursday was the real bum.
Totally housebound, I had the dutiful task of supervising my two year old daughter as she experienced life without nappies for the first time.
"Great" I think. "How hard can this be?"
And...
