so I say I won't go and do that for awhile and then what do I do? yeah . . .
What the hell was I thinking when I decided to write a 15-page paper comparing, contrasting, and analyzing how Thoreau's Walden (non-fictional account of a white man retreating to the woods) and Chopin's The Awakening (fictional story of a white woman in New Orleans) illustrate the importance of social deviation in the withdrawing from society (in body, mind, or both) in order to seek solitude and independence of the mind. and perhaps how loneliness is an unavoidable price for this independence. and perhaps the paradoxical nature of withdrawing and yet still needing to stay connected.
I'm not a huge fan of Walden, by the way. And although I enjoy The Awakening, I'll be required to read ahead. so yeah. What the hell was I thinking.
Okay okay okay. I give in. I'll go see your damn Harry Potter movies. But it's still gonna be an awfully long time before I get to reading those books.
Back in the day my world was rocked by the dopest gnome around: David.
Nowadays, what do the kids get? Fuckin Gordon the Garden Gnome.
That's not my gnome! I want David back! I spit on thee and thy jubilant li'l companions!
I recently read a pretty good graphic novel:
Ever wonder what it'd be like if vampires traveled to Alaska for a month-long feeding frenzy without having to worry about the sun? no? well here's a story about it anyway. creepy. somber.
I'm just in the mood to post pictures so here's another one:
I've also been working my way through the TPBs of Y: The Last Man
An English major escape artist named Yorick is the sole surviving man when every male mammal simultaneously dies for a reason that's not yet explained. How do the women deal when the world is instantly reduced by about half? How're the governments, hospitals, and society in general functioning? Why did Yorick survive and how do various women react to his existence? blah blah blah? good stuff. PLUS! Yorick has a pet monkey named Ampersand! That alone is enough reason to give it a read.
Finally, because I'm big friggin nerd, my heart's been touched by Four Color Love Story in a way that it never has before.
