Group work sucks, and it gets no better when you stop being a student and start being a code monkey in the real world. My solution has always been to be better than all the others in the group and make sure it gets done. I act on the assumption that they'll be useless when I'm planning things out, that way anything they actually produce that isn't crap is just a bonus. If you assume you're going to have to do everything, you're never disappointed, at least. Now the downside is I'll probably have an ulcer by the time I'm 30 and I work insane hours, but these are the tradeoffs we all get to make.
