a busy first half of summer, filled with art and music.

when i first moved to LA, i would ride my bike past this awesome house that stretched across two lots near hancock park, from one street to another. by pure coincidence, we were invited to see the collection of the lucky guy who owned the property. the bench above tells you a lot about his refined taste and humor.
we also had the pleasure of seeing LCD Soundsystem bring their amazing new songs to the Palladium...

The World Cup was fun....

until Brasil lost to the Dutch.... bummer.

back to the art, courtesy of the Baldessari show at LACMA

and the music, courtesy of Goldfrapp at the Hollywood Bowl

But the highlight so far has to Mrs 7sins debut as a curator and as an exhibiting photographer...

we celebrated with pizza and polaroids....

and even my cousin / genetic half brother (our mom's are identical twins) was in town for the occassion.

not a bad summer so far, and i still have hard fest this weekend and a week in texas to go before it's over.

so.. who has the best wife, who is able to put together a surprise birthday party in 2 days, and can get all these awesome people to drive to hollywood from all over LA on a friday night?

(the full flickr set is here.)
that would be the same guy who spent 3 days in the dessert listening to 98% awesome music, with a different group of awesome friends.

(more of the same here.)
just some lucky bastard, i guess....

These shots are from the backroom of the current David Choe show in LA. Lazarides is Banksy's dealer, and behind the Banksy LA event in 2006. He's staging three show throughout summer, in an old Anthropolgie space in Beverly Hills.
Here's the full set, definitely NSFW. If you can't see the pix, friend me on flickr.
The Fortnight of 45 has begun. We celebrated lightly with a bit of dancing on Wednesday and last night dinner at the Langham Dining Room (where Top Chef 6 winner Michael Voltaggio does his magic). Tonight we have a quiet dinner at home and possibly some more dancing with Pan-Pot and Sebo K. Tomorrow is high culture at the LA Opera. Work will take me to the Lakers vs Kings game on Tuesday, then we rest up for what will be a crescendo at Coachella.
After all that, I just might be ready to admit that I am finally over the hill.

we saw ed harris last night in neil labute's Wrecks. it was amazing.. he held the audience's attention for 80 minutes non-stop, delivering a eulogy of sorts for his recently passed wife and sharing his own story along the way. LaBute being who he is, there's some fucked up stuff, but like Fat Pig, this will never be made into a movie and should be seen live.
anyway, the play runs through Mar 7th and is the first time Harris has been on stage in 10 years. he's awesome. go if you can.
taken at a friend's birthday party last month....

the beard is just a winter affectation, and it comes off next week. i was taken back by the amount of white this year.
v-day was a bit of meh this year. work was the top priority, which meant stress more than relaxation. not that it sucked: we wound up in palm springs for the weekend instead of downtown at lucent l'amour. i did get to ride in the 56-mile Tour de Palm Springs, which was my longest ride in over a year. we rode past the Coachella Valley Preserve, which I am now dying to revisit.
i'm off to the Hwood farmer's market. i'm hoping to spend more time in the kitchen this year, especially exploring all that the local farms have to offer. i'm also looking into secret suppers and underground restaurants in the LA area. I'm starting a thread in the Slow Foods group.
Something that struck me as hilarious, particularly the attention to detail. check out the signs that the protesters are holding....

the second half of 2009 wasn't totally stellar but it wasn't a total write-off either. I think the quick photoblog does a decent job of telling the story. it's a long post so open the spoilter and then the overshare begin....
and the grand finale? our three week vacation in buenos aires and brasil. amazing fun, and a much needed time for mrs 7sins and me to reconnect. here's a few shots from that trip, and you can see the rest of the story via my this collection up on flickr.
happy new year to all! i'm trying to figure out how i can get my tumblr and tweets to update the blog automatically so i can spend my time in the groups. dying to see what people think of the new caprica.
