Hi friends. Sorry for my lack of updates. I've been surprisingly busy for an unemployed person lately. Writing a lot, looking for work, visiting my mom, and dealing with some fucked up shit in my personal life. Between nasty unemployment hearings (in which I have to represent myself as I can't afford a lawyer), stone cold rejection (both personal and professional), and my terrible taste in dudes (for which I probably need therapy), the universe has been battering me around a bit. Certain people who happen to be related to me have acted less like family and more like psychological saboteurs hellbent on making me feel bad about myself, but I'm getting over it. I can't even begin to describe how amazing and supportive my friends have been, as well as people I've never even met, many of whom have messaged me asking how I am, etc. As you've all helped me remember, I'm cool and strong and smart, and I'm going to be fine. Thank you for that.

Had a gorgeous dinner with gorgeous Xtine at Real Food Daily in Los Angeles. That same day I visited SGHQ and met everyone who works there, which was exciting. It was especially nice having lunch with Nicole Powers, who edits my articles but whom I'd never met before.

Interviewed Zaksmith for an article I'm writing about ex-New Yorkers. Everything that comes out of his mouth is smart and funny and golden.

L.A. was every bit the messy postmodern doomsday town I'd envisioned it to be. Lots of weird little enclaves connected by freeways jankier than the BQE, pretending to be one city. Extremely rich, extremely poor, extremely segregated. I want to be there when The Final Shit goes down, because I have a feeling that's where it's going to start.



Golden Era is a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco that serves up vegan delights with a side of insane religious literature. It's run by a fringe group that's into worshipping someone called "the supreme master." When I'm PMSing and craving fried/salty/tasty things, I don't ask too many questions.

Out of all the places I went, Portland and San Francisco were the only two places where I could see myself living for any length of time, but Portland was really the promised land for me. Cheap vintage dresses, pretty houses, nice people, D.I.Y. shows, cute boys on bikes, and a whole goddamn mini-mall full of vegan stuff. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I tried some Stumptown coffee and found it excellent. I almost wouldn't want to move there because it might make me soft. I'm naturally kind of a big lazy wuss, and New York forces me to step up my game. Never say never, though...
