I don't like to air this crap publicly, but, as with the confrontation itself, he's already taken it there, and in spades, and an answer - at least a dignified one - is scarcely out of turn at this juncture.
By this point, I have to say, he just seems to be making himself ridiculous. "Mess with the bull, get the horns"? I can't even... Read More
This is a long setup to something I find more generally interesting. I'd spoiler the duller part, but there's no convenient break in the train of thought. Sorry.
So, I invent languages as a hobby (yeah, I'm a nerd, fuck you). One of the ones I'm working on right now is spoken by equally imaginary Bronze Age nomads called "Tlan," for anyone who gives... Read More
"The way I see it, anyone who's proud of their country is either a thug or just hasn't read enough history yet."

There's something to be said for that. You may remember my Fourth of July post, of course, but you may also recall that I said specifically that I didn't consider myself a patriot.
As someone who got to choose their country, I disagree to a certain extent, primarily around Olympics and World Cup time. Otherwise, I agree! It's boring if I don't have someone to cheer for in fencing!
I'm thinking of purging my friends list of people I either don't really care about or have become actively annoyed with, and setting to autodecline. I'm getting disaffected.
But don't worry, this isn't about you. You're not one of them. There are surprisingly few of them, really.
I think I am going to do the same with my friends list.
Also I miss your presence...I don't know if it's just me but you aren't around much/we don't chat as much,
I think we need to fix this.

Nothing too major - I had just been pretty down, and this place can sometimes exacerbate things when I get like that. It's usually in my best interest at those times to just avoid SG entirely, so I went anon for a little while.
By the way - might want to investigate a little book called "The Lies of Locke Lamora", by Scott Lynch. (Well, not that little. It's a page or so shy of 500.)
Among other things, it fills a role I don't believe has been really much filled before - the fantasy con game story.
Wow, nice work with the quick distraction. Little do you know - I'm big into cooking, so those little bunnies just made me think of salt, pepper, coriander, and a good four hour brine than anything.
Sad, but true.
But yes, I will write you, and soon. I really do apologize for being away from my computer for so long, especially considering I'd told you my next e-mail would be better than the first.
Heh. It wasn't actually a bad day on the 20th, just a bad series of events. Oh well.
I'm actually not worrying too much about my birthday, because it's just another year at this point. I'm just getting dinner with family and such, and maybe something with friends if I can track them down.
