This came across my Tumblr and I have thoughts.

I can not remember a time in my life when I felt like my father loved me. He spent my entire childhood, indeed he spent every day until I ended contact with both my parents when I was 46, bullying and hurting me. Nothing I ever did was good enough for him, and he made sure

I also tried to build that bridge for my parents and it was useless, so I focus on my kids once they were born

I had a wonderful time at Steel City Comicon this weekend. It was my first time at this particular con, so I didnā€™t know there was such a huge contingent of horror fans, creators, and vendors who attend.

I love horror, and I was pretty psyched to be in the same place as John Carpenter...

Omg, they cut a child? This was so hard to read as I had parents that were living their lives regardless of the children they had.

Thank you for so bravely putting your experience into words. Ā People do not realise how endemic this is within the industry (and those that are closely related). I'm certain some would be shocked at the names involved and even more so as to why it is so pervasive. Ā RIP Isaac Kappy

A few months ago, an editor at IDW reached out and asked me if Iā€™d be interested in contributing something to their 400th issue of the Star Trek comic. I told her I was VERY interested, but wasnā€™t sure how much time I had in my schedule.

I offered a few options, presented in order from easiest (and least desirable for me) to most time-consuming,...

From my blog, a few days ago.

34 years ago today, 15 year-old me was at The Rose Bowl in Pasadena to see The Concert For The Masses.

This concert was headlined by Depeche Mode, ending their Music for the Masses tour. They were my favorite band in the world at the time, so I was always going to go. But it wasnā€™t just...

I had a similar experience getting to see The Police on their farewell tour at Madison Square Garden. Even after the show ended and the masses of people were filtering out of the stadium and into the subway, lines of song kept thrumming through the crowd, everyone still Ā singing together. It's something that stays in your bones, I think. I've been to so many great shows, but that experience has always remained special and unique.

From the moment Star Trek Picard was announced, people asked me if Wesley Crusher would make an appearance. Until August of last year, I told the truth when I said that I would love to do that, but had no idea if it would actually happen. Iā€™m pretty psyched that we were able to keep this secret as long as we did.

I want to...

Yesterday, around noon, I posted on my Facebook:

Iā€™ve been doing these very long days of press and promotion for Still Just A Geek. Itā€™s a lot, and itā€™s exhausting, but itā€™s awesome and Iā€™m grateful for all of it. I havenā€™t had this much fun doing late nights followed by early mornings since I was in my 20s.

Iā€™m also still doing Ready Room,...

Thereā€™s this commercial where a woman comes into her house and experiences the unparalleled relief of taking off her bra after a long day at work. I think itā€™s a beer commercial. Thereā€™s a Toots and the Maytals song in it called Pressure Drop. Itā€™s a great song, and if you know it, youā€™re probably grooving to it a little bit right now.
Or,...

California Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke-Harris reached out to me last week, and asked if Iā€™d be willing to talk a little bit about my Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) today, to coincide with the launch of NumberStory.org, a new nonprofit organization she founded to help support people like me who had ACEs, and live with the residual trauma as a result.

Before Dr. Burke-Harris reached...

You are a strong and brave man. MAN being the key word. Keep your head up, proud of who you are and have become despite those who only chose to keep you small. I appreciate you, how far you have come, and how much further you will go. Much respect, sir. Much respect

You have become a strong man and rejected reciprocating what you grew up with. I too had a bully of a father and promised myself I would not become like him. Shine on you crazy diamond

Yesterday, I marked the fifth anniversary of my decision to quit drinking alcohol. It was the most consequential choice I have ever made in my life, and I am able to stand before you today only because I made it.

I was slowly and steadily killing myself with booze. I was getting drunk every night, because I couldnā€™t face the incredible pain and PTSD I...

Itā€™s a powerful moment being able to face your inner child and offer comfort. Good for you, and thank you for sharing!

The hubs shared this post with me earlier and we had a tender moment reading it. Heartbreaking stuff, but so thrilled it worked out happily and those demons (and human monsters) laid to rest. x
