So another Halloween came and went... This year I worked for nearly the entire day. Sundays have become a cakewalk at work... I normally have enough able-bodied backup to hammer out a little paperwork, follow-up on phone calls and take things at a leisurely pace. Probably the highlight of the double-shift was driving one of my residents to visit his father in Cromwell. Since I was just dropping him off, I was able to roll down all of the windows, blare music and give an old roadtripper's goodbye to the last really nice weather of the year.
ElmCItyDrunk, GrumpyBear and myself got together and slowly but surely made a plan to do something...GB regains any lost cool points for being decisive and liking the That Dog album. We ventured to Bar and saw Dead Meadow. As a welcome surprise, there also happened to be every townie whom I adore enough to stop and say 'hello' to. Seeing her reminds me that I have to finish building AmazonRed13 a computer...How else will she keep an account?
The funeral service for my grandmother Saturday wrapped up the 7 days+ of family involvement... There was the service held in Ansonia at the funeral home I lived right around the corner from. ALienPrincess wasn't able to join me but DarkRabbit was...he's had 'adopted wayward child' status in my family for 15+ years so, a number of family members remembered him. Lunch was held in Tartaglia's in Derby. The head-turning waitresses were more notable than the food...their shimp scampi left soemthing to be desired namely, the chicken fancaise which I turned down.
We drove back to my 'Rents house where the ashes were poured into the pond towards the back of the property... It started as another solumn event. At least until my mom and cousin Tracy's familiar wicked streak took over and they together elected the funerary urn should be pitched into the water as well. My younger brother lobbed it discus-style successfully into the middle. My mom tried the same with the lid and at least got it past the shoreline. Whereas everyone walked downhill to the water clutching hands and blowing noses, us last straglers walked back uphill with devious grins on our faces.
Plans for the immediate future involve showering *insert mental image for those up for the challenge* and laundry *a ponderance for the masses who declined that first one*... My folks have, I must imagine, a large amount of leftovers from the family gatherings over the weekend. I'd be a fool not to make the odd sandwich or two for the deli trays still inhabiting their fridge. Tomorrow AlienPrincess, the greyed AmazonRed13 and I are teaming our coffee-clutching forces to get out the vote. I'm expecting a huge fucking line. I think that everyone has underestimated how many people are planning to turn up. It's a big enough issue for lapsed voters and first-timers alike to have gotten their asses in gear and vote fervently. My hopes are that you do the same.
