Forecast for my part of the valley today and over the weekend: 108 degrees. eeek

I guess I should be happy I don't live elsewhere in the valley as it's going up to 111 there. Yes, it will be a new record if we reach 108. Yes, I will be forgoing my daily walk (as I have much of this week) in the interest...

Hey there, just thought I would drop by and say hi and see what you have been up to.
I don't get on this site much anymore, although there are still some people here I care about.
Just so happens you're one of them.

cheers
Phil

I don't really have much to say, but I needed to update to move yesterday's grim image along. I always feel a little down on August 6th.

The immigration process is moving along. I have to go in to have fingerprints taken and such in a couple weeks. Hopefully it won't be that much longer until I can work and contribute financially...

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you...

yay for biting! and abba.

most biggest yay for matrimonial bliss!! so so happy for you two!!

incedently, you would've been in squirrel paradise on campus yesterday. it was a regular fiesta de lo squirrel - about 10 of them just scurring about, eating stuff, twitching, purring, and generally being manic. one tried to jump on my friend as if she were a squirrel or a table. good times. its squirrelly paradise around these here parts.
rodan:

and - just cuz -

(acapella abba? lol)

glad you're happy! biggrin

There are four good options for parsnips, IMHO (excluding omelettes).

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

If you know this already, apologies.

First and preferable, peel and chop into chunks about 2" long. Roast - either with other vegetables (worth dribbling a little oil on them, if you do this), or in the same tin as your meat, if you eat meat; they pick up the meat juices, which is good.
40 to 60 minutes; gas mark 5 or so.

Second, peel and chunk. Put in water salted to taste, and boil till soft-ish; seven to ten minutes, IME .

Third, as second, except boil for a couple more minutes, and mash with butter. (This works well with added carrots.)

Fourth, chop small and eat raw. Not to everyone's taste, but worth a go (especially when you have a bit too much for one of the other methods smile ).

Remember I thought our wedding would just be "Do you take blah blah blah?" and vice versa? Well it turned out the ceremony in the concrete bunker in Van Nuys was actually quite beautiful.

We arrived there about half an hour before our 9 am wedding. I managed to twist my ankle getting out of the car as I was so nervous. We were directed...

Finally we took all of our recycling in to the plant today. Turns out we should probably sort it before standing in front of all the big stinky bins cuz it's kinda a royal pain in the ass to sort on the run. Three cans in the bin one end. Two bottles in the can on the other. Back and forth. Chichi Status Recycling...

I got a letter from an older neighbour of mine from Canada yesterday. The handwriting looped and garlanded itself across the pages. What a treat! She even drew animals and flowers on the paper. It's been awhile since I've had a piece of mail like that and I enjoyed it.

I thought about typing a letter back to her and realized it wasn...
