Howdy ho to all you cool cats in SG land!
First of all, as always, a big thanks to those kind people who left supportive comments on the last blog. Your comments and support have helped me through this painful time.
So, not a lot of news since the last blog...
I've been off work again this week, and last weekend I was suffering from migraines and nausea as I hadn't slept well since Thursday. I spent most of Sunday in bed, as I was so tired. Plus it was a bit of a boring weekend, as the Mrs had started playing Dead Island Riptide, and she played it pretty much all weekend. She stayed up until 7.30 on Sunday morning after playing since mid afternoon on Saturday and then she got up around 11.00 and started playing it all day on Sunday, luckily she only stayed up until around 2.30 on Monday morning.
Thankfully she completed it in the early hours of this morning, and she wasn't impressed with it. She's more of a gamer than I am, but even I could see that it seems to be a total re-hash of the first game, with a couple of extra skills thrown in and tons of glitches. All in all, she thought it was more of a cash in on the success of Dead Island, rather than a sequel. It didn't have anything more to add to the story or any nice twists, like in the BioShock series.
She amazes me when she starts getting into a game, because she never appears to need much sleep at all until she's finished the game, cue lots of late nights and the odd all night gaming session. The funniest thing is that I didn't realise how much of a gamer she was until we got the PS3. We've had a Wii for years and she never played that as much at all, (I decided it was better to defect to Playstation rather than get a WiiU, as to me the WiiU feels like Nintendo's catching up to where Playstation and XBox are now, rather than being a next generation console...) it turns out she doesn't really like Nintendo, and that's why I never got to see the extent of her gaming habits.
I've basically spent most of this week being bored at home and watching as many dvd's I haven't seen in years as I can to alleviate the tedium. Watched the Lethal Weapon series over Monday and Tuesday, I'd forgotten how much I love those movies...
Today I finally had my long awaited appointment at the pain clinic, so here's how it went.
I've been referred to physio (which surprised me at first because physio won't help with testicular pain), this is because they practice acupuncture (which I was getting before and it seemed to take the edge off the pain, until the doctor practicing this retired) and he wants me to try that again since it seemed to help a bit. He also wants them to try using a tense machine to see if that will help. He's going to do a nerve block injection, but there's a long waiting list for that, so that won't be done until after the summer holidays.
He was about to send me on my way without actually doing anything today, when he asked me how the pain was right now. I told him I'd been off work for 3 weeks, so he checked me over and he decided to try a steroid injection there and then to see if that would help.
It was a big thing for me, as I hate needles and injections (always have), but I managed not to embarrass myself.
He had to find a sore nerve in my groin, and kept poking me hard and asking if it hurt. Eventually he found the spot he was looking for and jabbed in the needle, saying "Just a little scratch".
I was actually miffed when he said that, as I'd been hoping he was going to say "Just a little prick", because I would have made light of the matter and said "Not really, I've seen smaller!"
Haven't felt anything in the way of pain relief so far, as he said it takes 24 hours to take effect and I should hopefully see results over the next 3-4 days. If I don't notice any change after a week, then we'll know it's not been a success.
I'm trying to be optimistic about this, without getting my hopes up too much. All I can do now is wait and see what happens, I don't even know if I'm going to be fit for work next week or not. We'll just have to wait and see, it's not like I'm expecting a miraculous easing of the pain. That would be too much to hope for, but some relief would be better than nothing...
Will let you know on the next blog how I've got on.
That's enough about pain and doctors and stuff... Time for a music share:
