right now I'm wondering how it is that some things become parts of our lives without us realising it. Music especially, because I'm getting through a lot of it right now...
I mean that there are some songs, some records which are fixed in a particular time and place and nothing ever changes that. The Dismemberment Plan "Change" is always going to be fixed in those weeks last spring, the first few days of real sunshine (right about now) when my friend gave me her spare copy. I'm listening to it now and it still seems completely fresh; the memories haven't faded but become filled with all sorts of significances after the fact. Realising now that that was when it all began...
And then there are the others that you can't remember buying or listening to for the first time but work themselves into you, that you couldn't imagine going without because they've always been there. Jeff Buckley "Grace", r.e.m "fables of the reconstruction" Joy Division "unknown pleasures". Sad to realise that we've grown apart a little perhaps, but feeling safe knowing that they're there. Waking up tomorrow without them there on the shelf would be like waking up and forgetting how to breathe....

i've seen the blood brothers 3 or 4 times. really nice guys too. i got a copy of the new album at the end of december, i know im a fuck, and i fell in love instantly. i love everything, except for rumors laid waste, its cool because its bb, but its just not that great. i always go on blood brother stints where i listen to them for weeks at a time. long live the rock.
