so to those who haven't heard from me tonight, it has been a great day. kevin took me out to a wonderful japanese restaurant where we had lots of sapporo, sushi, and sashimi with banana tempura and chocolate spring rolls for dessert. in between dinner and dessert, he got out of his chair, got down on one knee, took out the ring we picked out together, and asked me to marry him. we looked into each others' eyes and i said yes. right after he put the ring on my finger and we were having our tender little moment, the unknowing waitress came over and started putting dessert silverware down, which made me laugh. i ended up thinking about it a few minutes later and tearing up, very happily.
we had a last drink at an emptyish bar down the road and it lasted for an hour while we talked and sat together holding hands and being so comfortable and happy together. i'll be so sad leaving in a week, but we have spent longer periods of time apart than the one coming up. when i see him again, if all goes as it should, he'll be with me for good and we'll be starting our life together. even when i am missing him, a smile will be on my face. i'm going to spend the next few months preparing to make his transition as easy as possible. this mostly means getting a job and cleaning out my parent's basement that will be his/our 'apartment'. i'm even happy about that.
oh yes, and as we were leaving the restaurant, the hostess gave us a little celebratory cake to bring home. she was very happy and excited for us, as kev had tipped her off earlier. hooray for engagement cake!

wheee, this is me wearing a LOT of jewelry!
the happy couple (the brooch/pin on my sweater was my grandmother's. i'm glad at least a little part of her was there for the moment).
