i'm a high school drop-out, i don't have a real job, i can't drive, and my house isn't spotless.

i'm through with feeling the slightest bit of guilt about any of these things.

i learned so much more by myself in the time i would have spent mindlessly answering a, b, c, d on multiple choice quizzes. i know i'm not the only one who...

wondering if you've ever heard of terra preta

I found out about it discussing the book 1491 about pre-Columbian America with my mother. apparently large tracts of land (acres) of this dark earth (terra preta) have been discovered in the Amazon. it is a combination of organic matter, manure, charcoal and pottery shards that is extremely rich and holds nutrients very well

the author of 1491 presents the intriguing theory that the Amazon was a carefully planted orchard

I do like it - thanks! biggrin Reminds me of Beck's early acoustic stuff, and Mississippi John Hurt (specifically 'Make me a Pallet on the Floor').

in this case, I'm thinking of a roof with a flat walking surface. Essentially, a yard or garden on the roof. It's the wet soil that get's heavy, especially when it's deeper.

Sounds like a beautiful life you lead. And I'm happy you liked the poem smile

I don't understand any of your references up there, I'm afraid frown

That's funny. Most women meet their husband for the first time in a wedding dress. before that he's just their fiancee/boyfriend/random stranger. wink

That sucks, even I've heard of Doug Funnie. That may because I'm raising a 3 year old but still...

Great pic! I'll take note of your recipe just in case I someday shoot a house movie, Ed Wood style, and I need simulating a magma pool from the earth's core with some low budget special effect.

Today morning walking in the street I noticed a small faux gemstone in the gutter, and now it's sparkling on my bookshelf. It's obviously made of glass, but il looks like an opal.

As usual, your pictures are fascinating. They're very fractal, in their way; the sort of patterns you see on pictures of Jovian moons.

Thanks for the reminder!

Now if only I had some way of celebrating it meaningfully in this hollow capitalist, materialist culture......*thinks*........hmmmmmmmmmm............... confused

sometimes i like to copy things out of books. typing is meditative to me, and it also gives me a certain familiarity with the story, like running over its contours with my fingers. i guess it's the same reason i learned braille and also spell out street names in sign language when i walk around. that reason being...? i don't know. i hate the abstractness...

Wow, all Gatlif's films look great - I'll definitely see them sometime, thanks smile

Funnily enough, I was actually thinking, while reading the excerpt, how much like you Palomar seemed.

repairing one. It broke across the neck many years ago, and my dad and I glued it then. That lasted for ten or twelve years, then the glue failed. It's been in an attic till a couple of months back. Now it's on my floor, wired to a board so it sets properly.
I am considering reinforcing the joint with some sort of metal staple, though I suspect it won't do the acoustics much good. If it's awful, I'll probably put a pickup on it.

(No I don't know what I'm doing. But it's mine, and if it explodes into a cloud of splinters, well, I'm not out anything.)

Well I don't know of anything I'd want to do in Tennessee.. it's not a place that is a hotbed of the activities, places I would like to do, but I'm open to suggestion.

Well I work at a phone company for money and do writing/film/music in my spare time right now. Lots of student debt to pay off. And I write reviews and things. Most of the music stuff I do is like electronic studio stuff and things for radio plays, but I do love to participate.

Actually I was planning on going to Victoriaville for the first time this year - first year I was too broke, 2nd I had to work. Have always wanted to go.. it's coming up pretty soon.. may I believe.

more likely now. i might even be single for the day. which opens a whole new case of trouble.

So, are you still thinking of coming to Oz this year?

Let me know. I'll probably be here for a while.
