I suppose that I should update more often, but lately SG has seemed like it's pretty far from where the rest of my life has been and I tend to forget to at least say something. This weekend was good, I took off early (very early) from work to head down to see my family. Along the way I stopped off and took care of a few things for my up coming wedding and then headed to my moms. It was a pretty relaxing weekend, but I found out that I've turned into a real light weight lately. On Friday night we went out for sushi and I had a couple (and I really mean 2) beers and 2 very small cups (think little girls tea set small) of sake and I was feeling pretty damn good till the next morning. I wouldn't say it was a hang over but I definatly was a bit out of step all day. Unfortunatly my dad was moving my step brother into his new place up next to UCSB since he starts school this week so I didn't get to stop in and visit with him. Its rather unfortunate since it seems like I keep missing him when I go down and I know that he would really like a chance to catch up. I had a really close call with something very special to me on the way home though, I almost lost a ring that was given to me by whitewidow for Valentines day, I was frantic to find it, after all what was I supposed to tell her if I couldn't find it.
Well I can tell you exactly what I told her, that I felt awful and was very very sorry. I actually felt sick to my stomach holding it in all day on Monday hoping that I would find it in the car or something. All I knew is that before I left my moms I had it on, and when I got home it was gone.
Did it fall off when I washed my hands after getting gas, or before I grabbed a bite on the way home? Did it fall off when I washed my hands at my mom's house before I left, or did it fall off when I tried my new mountain bike gloves on in the car? As luck would have it that's when it came off, I guess it got caught up in the glove and came off with it, and when I tossed them into my camel back it fell out. I found it today as I was checking to see that my bike was stowed properly and that the tires on the bike had plenty of air in them. What's weird is that I tore the car apart on both Monday and Tuesday looking for it.
Monday was kind of a surreal day for me, 5 years after the day that will be as infamous as Pearl Harbor was for my grand parents to me for the rest of my life. It seems longer, but at the same time I remember it like it was yesterday, and all the crazy crap that the US military started freak out about. Its not quite the same as it was then but a lot of the same stuff that went into place after 9/11 is still there. Maybe I'm just more used to it now so it doesn't seem so weird anymore. The "War on Terror" rages on and sailors, soldiers and Marines are still dying, what a waste of human life, I just hope that when history looks back on this time its not seen as something that was a huge fiasco.
Today went ok, I got a nice 3 1/2 mile run in before work started, but of course this makes me kind of exhausted today, and I've got to be up at 4 so that I can drive down to 29 Palms and back and still get home at a decent hour. Now that I've updated enough to satisfy myself I'm going to stop.

Dude, Vietnam. Sorry, but most people viewed that war as a huge fiasco. Today people are already calling the "War on Terror" a huge fiasco (and some might go so far as to call it a fraud). Don't worry though, history will be kind to those who have fought and died (it always is).
On another note, I'm glad you found your ring. At least my rummaging around beneath the sink (braving a foulness that I'd rather not repeat, nor remember) wasn't completely in vain.
That reminds me (ok, no segway here, just sheer randomness), here's that video clip of Thor I'd mentioned while we were looking at the power tools in Lowes:
