so i'm sitting staring at one of the clone army of dell flatscreens that populates the lab at the fsu center on sunday evening (or maybe it was monday morning?) and i brilliantly think okay if i bang out the majority of this paper tonight i will reward myself by buying 10,000 days tomorrow first thing in the morning. what a great way to get work done, with an incentive and a rather mighty one at that. predictably, i gave up on the paper some hours later and just bought the album anyways. the promise of a new cd didn't work, so we'll try "impending failure crisis" for awhile instead.
so thoughts on the new tool? it kicks ass. i didn't have any expectations so i wasn't disappointed at all. it's very jam-metal, sort of like older tool as covered by isis. but it's got some damn cool songs on it. and the packaging again managed to top the utter awesomeness of the preceding album. the case is a stereoscope...how fucking sweet is that?! for those of you who haven't but are curious, i'd recommend picking up a copy.
very little was accomplished academically on monday but i did a lot. there was a may day demonstration in trafalgar square and a big march that started across the street from where we live so i couldn't stay away from that. i walked with the anarchist bloc and was privy to a scuffle with the police right at the mouth of the square. in front of me was a mass of arm-locked flourescent yellow coming towards me like a seething swarm of tennis balls. behind me was a conspicuous group of chaps clad mostly in black and masks who definately were not there a few minutes before. that was when i decided that i wasn't in the mood for street fighting and quietly slid out the side of the bloc to watch the altercation over the backs of the cops. and then it was ASIAN XTREEEEEEEEEEEME night at the prince charles. so, a pretty good day.
i'm in a mood for tortillas, so that will be dinner tonight. i've been in a mood for them since sunday, when i saw a particularly tasty looking one at the market but was lacking in the liquid funds to aquire it.
sean's last week is bleeding out my savings pretty thoroughly.
