I'm back.

Finally ponied up the 30 bucks to rejoin the site. I hope everyone has been well.

Since last time I've:
moved to SF
started yet another grad program
...and not much else, that's depressing, I thought I'd have a long list.

NorCalers, hiya.

More later.

Went up to Portland last week. Very cool town, my first visit. Reminded me a bit of my hometown, Minneapolis. Smallish city, lots of writers/artists/musicians because they can actually afford to live there, green space in the city. Very nice. I think I could live in Powell's Books. And the trip was doubly enjoyable knowing that it will be the last fun I see until...

off to portland next week on a roadtrip with some friends. should...

Really feeling like I should update, but not much going on.

Saw Interpol and Mates of State a couple weeks ago, both great shows. Sold my Cat Power tickets at the last minute, did anyone go?

A good friend is coming through town with his band this week, so more music in my future.

I really need to find someplace permanent to live, I realized...

Lebowski Fest

Who's going to dork out with me? I realize this is just one step away from a sci-fi convention, but I'm okay with that.

Is anyone else getting porn pop ups from this site? Mommylovescock.com? Hmmmm...

i sold my tickets at the last minute (literally at the last hour) because two of my friends bailed and i wasn't in the mood anymore ---plus no cameras allowed and management never replied to me about the pass.

Mates of State 2/19
Cat Power 2/21
Polyphonic Spree 2/21
Irving 2/24
Doves 3/21
Decemberists 3/24
Low 3/31
Queens of the Stone Age 4/18
And I think David Cross is performing soon

Too many good shows, not enough money.

And I seem to be turning into an insomniac, which sucks because I LOVE to sleep. So much so, that I like waking up in the...

I've been watching A LOT of zombie movies lately: dawn of the dead, resident evil, 28 days later (not technically zombies, I know), shaun of the dead, thriller, etc.

I'm wondering how I'd react should the world go apeshit, fight or flight? I'd like to think I'd come out guns a blazin', but since there's no way I'd ever own a gun, that seems unlikely....

Irving rocked. Except the screaming girls, that sucked. I have tons of pictures. Will upload soon.

...and zombies? I'm not sure. I would like to say i'd fight because it'd give me the chance to enact violence which i don't do to anyone, anything. and i have so much pent up anger. heh.

why'd you delete us?
hotcurry:
somehow that really does make me feel better. The thing that really gets me is that 3 years ago I had completely paid off all my credit card debt. Then I got sick. Now it's back 2 fold. I really want to believe that it will go away someday.

favorite sad songs?

I guess I've been a little melancholy lately as I've been listening to nothing but sad music lately. maybe I should start smoking pot again.

off the top of my head my current favorites are:
pictures of you - the cure
crying - roy orbison
landslide - fleetwood mac
love will tear us apart - joy division
purple rain - prince

nearly any joy division song breaks me in two.

um.
ricochet - the detachment kit
everything hits at once - spoon (i actually cried the first time I heard it. i hadn't even heard of spoon before seeing them that first time)
crumbling mountain tops - irving (playing sat. night @ the echo)
it's too late & so far away - carole king
trouble - cat stevens
crazy - patsy cline
throwaway style - exploding hearts (right, it doesn't sound sad)
parliament square - stina nordenstam
a distorted reality... (1st 7" version, not the one on From a Basement) - elliott smith
and for some reason
beast of burden - rolling stones, makes me really sad.

oh i need to stop.

27 passed quietly last night. no drunken stupor (that was on Sat.), just a day of spluring on yours truly: a $12 sandwich from greenblatts, a bunch of CDs I really can't afford, and a shiny new Dazed and Confused DVD.

Now I've got a couple weeks to figure out the following: where I'm going to live for the next year, if the girl I...

It is now officially my birthday and I am completely ambivalent about it. though, since the last few months have kind of sucked, so I'm looking forward to closing the book on 27.

Was up in my old stomping grounds of San Francisco last weekend. Damn I miss that town.

I need school to start again soon. I've just been sitting around driving myself crazy...

Firstly, apologies for being AWOL the past couple months. And thanks for not deleting me from your friends lists; I promise to be making the journal rounds shortly.

Secondly, I need to get out more. I'm quickly losing any social skill that I might have had. Went to a party at Tom Bergins last night, and couldn't bring myself to say a word to anyone...

south bay? don't know anything about the south bay. i live in east hollywood though, and i too want to know why there's a "scene" everywhere. but on my side of town, i'm growing fond of the bigfoot lodge. it feels like a place with a big sasquatch sign isn't allowed to have too much a scene. if you just want a regular bar, my neighborhood also sports The Stone, a thai bar with lots of stools available and a happy hour from 7-10pm.
