After a wretched cold the last couple weeks, my knee began hurting. I figured it was a small injury and could be treated nicely with ice and rest. Normally maybe so, but I think the cold severely weakened my body. After increasing pain over the weekend, and even a pool session on Monday instead of road running to avoid unnecessary impact, I went for a short run yesterday. I couldn't even finish 3 miles. I almost broke down weeping. After months of training, endless hours of running every week, could I really be out of the marathon just 2 weeks before the race?! I'm bereft, awash in a sea of disbelief. (I'm also snacking heavily...) I'm going to a special orthopedic surgeon on Friday for advice, and hopefully some hope. I have a goal, man! I've gotta do this! But I harbor the suspicion and fear that this is a race-killing injury [>_<].
