So I was just having a message board conversation with myself about Blade of the Immortal and it donned on me that I really love that comic book. SO I thought I would right a journal entry about Samuri Life in the ne w millenium.
Three things have made me want to be a samuri in the modern day. And I do not mean the sword swinging type, the age of swords is over, but the honor of a samuri and the pride of a samuri can remain. The three things that make me want to be a samuri in pride and honor are the comics Lone Wolf and Cub and Blade of the Immortal, and the cartoon Samuri X.
All three are stunning works for several reasons. To see the blade of the Imortal reasons, go to the message board I wrote on it. Lone wolf and cub is an excellent piece on a father/ son story that takes place during the tokugawa era. It is well done and gives some insight into Japanese fuedal society. The stories are excellent and shows how one man can lose his station in life, but never lose his pride or honor, even though he has become an assasin.
Samuri X is just a brilliant 4 episode series. It is visually beautiful and the story is fantastic. It is one of three movies/series that can bring a tear to my eye. It is about a boy assasin who is the deadliest swordsman in Japan, and how the sword does not bring him peace although he serves an honorable cause.
These things have made me strive to be more samuri like in my pride. They taught me to find a code of ethics that I can believe in and follow that till I die. I think Iwas born into the wrong age of man, or my past lives are overriding my current ones a bit too much. Either way I am happy. But such is life.
