Sometimes I feel like most of my family members don't treat my grandfather with the respect he deserves. He's 90 years old. He's been through some shit and he knows a lot. But people talk around him like he's not even there or like he's stupid, even though he's still perfectly lucid, and sharper than almost everyone I know. Ageism, I guess.
Today I called him to ask for his advice about Japan, because I'm worried most of all about how my dad will take it. He told me all he cares about is that I'm happy. He said it's my life and I should do what I want. And he said nothing stopped him from doing what he wanted, even when other people didn't approve, and he's glad he lived his life that way. That's still how he is. My grandpa, the rebel.
Love him.

Your grandpa sounds like someone I'd love to meet.
