Lavonne's Guide to Complimenting a Woman

We may be called SuicideGirls, but we are all women, and if you want to be noticed by us, appreciated by us, and respected by us, here is my guide on how to speak to us.

Number one: always treat us with respect. This means treating us as equals and not pushing the boundaries of polite conversation unless we specifically ask. We may be naked on the internet, but we're still humans with feelings, and lack of clothing doesn't mean you get to treat us with any less dignity than you would your mother or sister. Talk that is degrading or filthy is not okay unless we specifically consent to it.

Number two: don't turn "compliments" into a statement about yourself. We don't want to know what horrible things you want to do when you see our photos, or which of your body parts like us the most. Try expressing what you appreciate about us instead. Example: instead of "Your ass gives me a strange feeling in my pants" use "You have an exquisite figure." If you do want to talk about yourself it should ideally be something relevant to our interests. Example: "Your gorgeous facial features inspired me to pick up my sketchbook again."

Number three: grammar matters. "You're gorgeous!" means so much more than "your gorgeous!" Use "you're" when you mean "you are" and reserve "your" for when you're telling us about some specific aspect of ourselves, like "Your body is divine and your smile could melt all the icebergs in the sea."

Number four: humour and originality are always appreciated, even when cheesy. A bad haiku using only the word "butts" repeated over and over will be remembered more than another boring comment about how hot we are. Just remember: pasting the same bad haiku on every set might cancel out the originality part.

Number five: once you've mastered the techniques above and want to try something advanced, try a compliment that has nothing to do with our looks. We are all used to being physically objectified, but a comment on our intelligence, talents, or personal character can be a pleasant surprise. Example: "Even though you're drop dead gorgeous, I find your inspiring blog posts the most impressive part about you." ;)

If you've made it this far, thank you! And remember the bottom line: love and respect for all.

Awesome...I try to do that always, and I do hope it is always taken as sincere and genuine. Looks and nakedness are awesome and at times intoxicating, but ultimately its the soul, what's much deeper and inside that really matters.
