All right, here's the detailed descriptive journal entry that i've been neglecting you with for so long.
so first off, we had these 2 shows over the weekend, significantly out of town. not a problem, those would probably be fun if it weren't for the fact that i had the rough draft of my huge paper due yesterday, and my presentation due today. to top it all off i had to get the bargoylz cartoon done by last week. so last week just consisted of me busting my ass every night trying to get one of those things done. i got the cartoon and paper more or less done, just left the presentation until last night. anyway, let's continue...
so saturday we play in johnstown. it was a good time, but at the same time, it was really frustrating. frustrating in a lot of ways because it feels like this band has hit a creative wall, that we're just sort of spinning our wheels, and i'm ready to move on. frustrating in another way in that i'm frustrated with the commitment level of some of the members. the fact that our guitarist stays 5 minutes away from where i live (where we practice) and hasn't so much as touched his guitar in 2 months just sucks, because he NEEDS to become a better guitar player.
the second show was funny. (this part's long and dumb, you can skip to the next paragraph if you're bored) i went to a friend's house the night before, and as i was leaving her place i realized that i couldn't find my phone. i thought it was lost in her place, and we tore apart her apartment looking for it, but to no avail. i drove home discouraged. so the next day i couldn't get a hold of anyone, because i had their numbers saved in my phone. so finally after like 2 hours of freaking out i happen to find it crammed behind by couch. so at this point the battery is just about dead, but i have enough juice to find out that the show is an hour earlier than we had thought - we get on the road and start hauling ass.
we get to the show about 30 minutes late to find out that there is no power in the building. no one has a clue why. finally they run an extension chord from the chinese restaurant next door and that powers the WHOLE SHOW. ha ha, yup, every time underoath's guitar player would play, the keyboardist's stuff would shut down. i had to go sit in the chinese place for 15 minutes while the show was finishing up so that they wouldn't close and shut off their power.
so both shows were a lot heavier than we're used to playing (evergreen terrace, bleeding through, underoath, remembering never...) so we didn't go over very well. a lot of people in bands said they liked us, and looked genuine. i don't know, though, i tell everyone that i know in a band that they did a good job. we also didn't get PAID for either, which definitely sucks. however the shows did give me the oppurtunity to really get to sit down and talk with a lot of the bands that i'm a huge fan of and that are out there touring. it really gave me the final bit of understanding that i really want to be in a committed and touring band. so i'm excited about the oppurtunity to get back to pittsburgh and start working with some kids that i'm a lot happier working with musically.
so in conclusion - a lot of running around, a lot of stressing out about my english class. i went in and gave my presentation today, totally made it my bitch, got 100%. now it's just smooth sailing....a little revision of my paper and i'm done with college. woo fucking hoo
