Fringe!
This summer I get to spend 6 weeks traveling to exotic cities and performing Scorpio's Fringe show Sacrilicious! written by danny_g. And by "exotic" I mean Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton. I'll put up more show performance info once it becomes available, but for now here's a blurb.
I assure you, it will be excellent.
I'm really enjoying the rehearsals so far. Plus, I'm ridiculously excited about touring. I can't wait.
Otafest - aka Weekend of Lots of Work and Little Rest
I worked at Calgary's annual anime festival this last weekend. It involved packing up about 5000 books from the comic store, hauling them over to the university, setting up a bunch of shelves in our booth and then putting out all the books. We were there until about 10pm on setup night and then we were back at 7 the next morning to finish getting our stuff out. It was a lot of books. About 70 long boxes worth. (if you're a comic geek you'll know what I'm talking about)
Then I spent the weekend selling manga to various people including a bunch of cosplayers. Some costumes were good, some were... scary. Let's just leave it at that.
Danny_g and some of my other friends stopped by to harass... er... I mean visit me for a while.
Some highlights!
One girl asked me if we had any yuri manga which we didn't. It's not something that's really available here. Not like the yaoi. That we can get tons of. So she expressed her displeasure over this with what became my quote of the weekend! "I don't want to see one cock, let alone nine of them!" I laughed. Her friend laughed. Other people stared. Awesome.
A bunch of girls were hanging out in front of our booth. One of them meowed. Then they all started meowing. More people came over and joined. So we had a rather large-ish group of people meowing in front of the booth for about 5 minutes. Odd.
When we were packing everything up at the end of Sunday I found a Kingdom Hearts necklace (still in the package) snagged on our racks. I had no way of finding the person who lost it, so mine now. Then I found $20 on the floor. I win at life.
Packing up and taking everything back to the store was tiring but we had way less stuff to bring back. Yay! Plus we went for bubble tea when it was all done. I was happy.
Edmonton Visits
I went to Edmonton Wednesday to visit some friends and go out to karaoke! First stop was FreakPirate's house where we played Guitar Hero. Well, I watched him play Guitar Hero. Freebird on Expert. Wow.
Then a short nap was had. I was still so sleepy from moving stuff and not sleeping enough on the weekend. Plus I like naps.
Then to karaoke.
I met Spiffy who sang and sang well! All of the regulars were great as usual. I swear I was going to sing this time. carla even put in the song request but there wasn't enough time to get us in. Sorry, next time. This time for sure. You can trust me...
Afterwards Carla, FP and I went out for coffee and a quick snack. At this point, Carla got a hold of my camera and took tons of pictures. It's her way. It did result in one of the best series of pictures ever! You be the judge...
Apparently the nap wasn't enough because we soon got sleepy.
FreakPirate says: Sleepy is METAL!
The next day I went for tasty breakfast with Carla and FP. Then home time. It was nice enough in Edmonton, but was the weather ever crappy on the way home. Come on Alberta. It's late May! I shouldn't have to see a bunch of snow. There was also rain and fog for a chunk of the drive. Boo.
I think that may be all I have to report for now. Hey, maybe suggest some karaoke songs for me to sing. Part of the reason I never get around to singing is that I can't decide what I want to sing until it's too late. Having some sort of plan may help with that.
Ooh, I almost forgot. Carla also took an amusing video of FP and I at the coffee shop. I'm unsure if I should post it. Slightly embarrassing and all. Any opinions?
I am such an australian wine-whore.
I think there is a special circle of hell for those of us who drink a bottle of wine while watching, say, "Flushed Away" but I guess that's the price I pay for a good life.
Oh, well. At least My Little Chulhu will be along for the ride!
