And I'm back, SG! Did you miss me?
(Don't bother answering that - I think we all know the answer.)
It's been over 4 months now with highly erratic net access, but I've kept busy. I've even kept up a little on another journal. Now don't be jealous, it's mostly a work thing, so go say hi, I think you might like it.
JDRook's touring LiveJournal
I'm way behind on that one as well, mostly because of the touring. I'm currently in Winnpeg, though, and my aunt has set me up in a guest room with a terminal in it, so I figured it might be safe to reactivate the ol' account (thanks, danny_g) now that I'm not accessing on strangers' laptops in their breakfast nooks. I really don't want to have a conversation that begins "But it's not JUST a porn site . . ." with nice people who let me stay under their roof in big strange cities.
So for the short version of the tale, I'm touring across Canada as the stage manager of a one-woman Fringe Theatre show called SMILE while you DIE. The creator/performer, Rachelle, managed to win the touring lottery, which means she got to choose which Fringes to perform in as long as it was at least 5 cities, and she finally picked 7. (It was originally 8, but it was decided that between visas, border guards and our lack of cars and licenses it would be too much trouble and expense to get to Minneapolis - sorry America, NoShoFoU!)
So far we've done Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and are currently in Winnipeg. We have a few weeks off where I hope to get in touch with people back in Calgary, then it's off to Edmonton (Da Mutha of all Fringes - 'cept maybe Edinburgh) and then Victoria and Vancouver on the west coast, finishing up in time for Talk Like A Pirate Day!
I've seen and met a lot of people on the tour, and caught a lot of shows, and I keep thinking I'll record stuff about them. We'll see.
I have realized that I probably missed several opportunities to meet other SG members in other cities and invite them out to catch my show. (I think this hit home hardest for me when I saw the SG Canada Day set.) So if you're in any of our host cities and you've heard of the Fringe or at least have a passing interest in theatre, let me know.
Oh, the semi-offical website is here and our remaining Winnipeg shows are at VENUE #10 Cinematheque 100 Arthur St. - Artspace building. Tickets: $8 / with Call Center Employee Photo ID: $7 Matinee: $7 / Frequent Fringer: $6
