for someone who works with electronic music, it appears that i'm pretty much a luddite when it comes to the computer music side of things. fortunately i have friends who know more than me, and they're helping me out, bit by bit, as each new seemingly unsurmountable stumbling block rears its ugly head. i just want everything to be set up properly so i can...

I forgot to ask you before I left, who does that cover of "Can't Get You Out of My Head", which you played tonight? I don't know why, but it struck me as rather interesting.

Today it rains, a probable sign that I need to stay indoors and work on music after a wonderful weekend spent in the company of sunshine and brilliant friends.

Spent Monday at the Big E...the New England Exposition, a kind of state fair for more than one state. Su and I met up with the always amazing Welntaod and alienprincess, and so-cool-it-hurts AmazonRed13 and...

The first week at work turned out to be no sweat, pretty mundane actually. They just had me doing boring, archival stuff, basically logging old footage. This week will hopefully be a bit more exciting, I may be directly involved in an actual shoot Tuesday. Suffice it to say, I did overeact a little, only b/cuz this is my first "real" job within the media industry since I finished school in July, and was really paranoid about a making a bad impression on the first day. It'll take me a little while to get completely comfortable yet, but at least I'm not walking into work on pins and needles anymore.

Fall fairs are the best, I always look forward to travelling to nearby small towns to check out at least one every year.

I'm glad to hear you're still plugging away at the music, any chance of you posting sound bites of your work over the internet?

Thanks again for your support! kiss kiss kiss

Great seeing you as well! I saw you earlier in the evening getting a drink from the front bar, but it looked like you were in a rush, so I didn't bother. whatever

Dood, what up? Hope you're still attending concerts, making music, and living the good life. biggrin

My recording session on Sunday went swimmingly, and I was told that it was mentioned in the Tuesday 9/7 bit of Neil Gaiman's blog. Go visit. It's fun AND informative! All of Sunday was a delight, actually.

The Siouxsie show in New York on Monday was simply amazing. Budgie and the Kodo drummer, along with expert guitar and keyboard players were in top form....

You almost got me in trouble!!!

She doesn't know anything about this site and gets terribly freaked out when she knows I talk to my friends about her... when you mentioned the car race I thought I was gonna panic! All is well, I side-stepped the few times she's brought it up since.

You are right, she does ROCK and she is really cool and very much fun, but as always there are snags that have caused uncertainty and doubt. I'm just moving slow and learning more, getting comfortable with her, etc...

We'll see.

By the by, she's had nothing but good things to say about you and dancing to whatever you play. I think your Wednesday and Saturday nights play a very big part causing her happiness throughout the week. (She was also at the NY show, although I'm not sure which night).

Thats awesome about the Gaiman blog; he's been a favorite of mine for a very long time. Your new project sounds really interesting, I can't wait until you are finished.
quiescence:
Man...damn that closing shift on Wednesday night that killed any desire for me to do anything.

Still need any bagpiping on the cd? wink

We'll have a drink in your honor tomorrow night, since you won't be able to spin for our housewarming.

Welntaod and alienprincess made the trek from CT to Boston tonight to come to Flesh, an evening at the club. It just made me realize how wonderful it would be to live in the same city as them, and it also made me sad that the tyranny of geography keeps me from seeing them as often as I'd like. They're truly wonderful people. It just...

Since installing OSX I've been spending too much time manually updating my address book and entering in info from my Palm, in case all the info is erased when I sync up. Paranoid? Perhaps...but I've heard too many stories of people losing all of their data, and the pain of making sure all the info is in a safe place is much less than what...

Actually I think I finally hit my wall Wed. night. Or course since leaving Manray at midnight I have gotten a grand total of 5 hours of sleep. One 3 hour block and one 2. This should make NYC this weekend very intresting.

I have started disliking myself when I get crabby, I tend to say mean things. And apparently I'm pretty good at it. Mean and funny i'm all about no matter the state of my candle, but mean just to be mean I'd like to avoid.

i survived the dinner with my fianc's parents...had a rather lovely time, actually.

i'm now cleaning out tons of music files from my computer, so i can make room for, uh, more. it's all my music, though...none of that file sharin' mp3 stuff allowed here.

back to work, but not before dropping off a quick kiss ...just for you!

thanks.

so, anyway, MAHI MAHI is this really good dance-music-creating duo from Providence. one guy plays drums (live and electronic/synth? whatever they are called) and the other sings, plays keyboards, and uses some electronic equipment to play samples, make sounds, distort his voice, and distort the sounds the drummer is making.

i saw them twice opening for other bands and they rocked me into oblivion, it was the first time i'd ever lost myself completely dancing to live music.

i don't really like bands interrupting dance night, but they seem like they were tailor-made to play at the club. i'd really love to see them play a room full of people who WANT to dance as opposed to the room full of punks and indie rock kids who are too busy trying to look cool...

this is their website i think it has mp3s on it, but from what i've been told, they sound much better live than on recording. still, check it out if you get a chance. they're really cool/nice guys to talk to. they just seem to love playing.

congrats on the meeting of the parents. i'm historically really good with moms, but really bad with dads, i don't know what it is...

8 hours on trains, and 12 in new york. that was my wednesday. i went to see the once a year concert by the three terrors, which is made up of people from the magnetic fields, flare and kid montana. the show was amazing, and the whole day was a delightful whirlwind of wonderful songs, people, opportunities, and a late night gay bar or two....

i am currently toying with the tail tale in my head - i must write it proper and true. the short version is that my tail bone is a bit long for my spine - pilates is extra challenging in that respect - and i ALWAYS since i was little assumed i was like a lizard and had a tail, and someone clipped it. my eternal sadness was that it did not grow back. perhaps it was living in the p.i., but i was really into lizards and so wanted to be one. plus, it was a nickname for awhile (which, if you know my real name, which i think you do, makes sense). anyway, so yes - tail tail tail. i wish.

Back from Niagra Falls, and Su and I had a really amazing time. The Falls are so...awesome is the only word I can think of to properly describe them. No matter how many haunted houses, souvenir stands and tourist crapfests they put up, nothing can detract from the immense power (literally) and beauty of nature. We did some fun things on the American side too,...

i've never been to Niagara, but i lived about an hour away from Bushkill Falls when i lived in pennsylvania. my teenage-first-love-sweetheart took me on a long hike through the Falls for an anniversary and it was one of the best times we ever had. that area isn't very touristy, but i'm sure the natural beauty of the Falls themselves outshine even the most garish of attractions.

last night was one of the most fun times i've had at the club since i've been going there. i really got lost in a couple of songs that you played and ended up dancing long after i thought i should've been too tired to continue. i had forgotten about the request for "After the Flesh" and i got so genuinely excited when you played it that i just had to run onto the dance floor like the giant ass that i am biggrin . thanks!

i'm gonna have to dip out on you next week though to see The Kings of Nuthin' as they are one of the best bands I've seen around these parts and last time I saw them I danced myself into stupidity and had a wonderful time (also, a certain dancing girl has expressed her interest in joining me as well)... don't fret though, i'll be back soon enough, maybe i'll even pick up a Saturday to make up for it... i'm dying to dance to some punk AND to some 80's...

Curioso Festival on Saturday, a few days in Niagra Falls with my fianc, back in Boston for the remainder of the week to spin some dancy & stompy trax, lots of recording for my albums, then a quick trip to New York for the 3 Terrors once-a-year concert.

That's the edited down English version of what's going on here. The semaphore version just didn't translate...

thanks so much for your comment the other day, it was very thoughtful.

i am very much all about setting myself into a routine with my work and trying to get some manageable easy deadlines. i am of the belief that major victories are built on the backs of small successes. i've layed out my first major comic story this summer, i have no time at all to work on it, so i did most of the layouts on the 66 bus to and from work. if i can manage to get far enough ahead on my income-providing-projects, i can clear two or three days every two weeks or so to have marathon drawing sessions and try to pump the whole thing out.

i have a lot of faith in the story, its one of the closest-to-heart things i've put-together, so its just a matter of finding the time to draw the panels and picking the write words to express the thoughts, then i just gotta ink it and publish it...

piece-a-cake! wink

do you have any of your music online, i'd like to hear some of it. i looked at the pics of your studio a few weeks ago and i thought it was pretty rad. back when i lived in PA i was able to afford to have an extra room that i converted into an art studio. i spent all of my time in there.

anyways...

wednesday night, i'm thinking Thrill Kill Kult... "after the flesh" or "fangs of love" maybe...

***

oh, and as per my journal entry today, thanks for playing Joy Division most of the times i was dancing... i had never listened to them before, but a certain dancing lady told me that "love will tear us apart" was a joy division song. I have gradually fallen in love with their stuff.

a rather pleasant weekend, without that pesky headache! the annual manray employee party happened, and featured much to eat and drink, large chunks of random silliness, a pool that had several people thrown into it, and, of course, a bit of gratuitous nudity...wouldn't have been complete without that!

lovely.

hope your weekend was as much fun.
