Had a great day at the Literature and Arts Festival in Hay On Wye yesterday. Saw lectures by philosopher A. C. Grayling (who it was amazing to meet in person afterwards), mathematician Marcus Du Sautoy, scientist Robert Winston, Author Jeanette Winterson and the brilliant Christopher Hitchens.

Whilst all of the lectures were very good I was especially impressed by Jeanette Winterson. She was there because...

Well my free 3 months, thanks to some benevolent individual, has now come to an end and I've made the decision to sign up for a year. Thought it would be a lot easier to make friends here than it has been but, in saying that, you can't be too careful and I guess a lot of weirdos frequent this site. I've met a couple...

Just booked my tickets for the Hay Festival. Can only make it to one day this year so have had to make the most of it. Got tickets to see Christopher Hitchens, one of my favourite writers and speakers, Marcus Du Sautoy, A C Grayling and Jeanette Winterson. Should be a really good day.

Had my hearing aid fitted this week so things are a...

My desktop PC has been infected with the My Security Engine virusmad. Bloody nightmare. Basically, in case you ever come across it, the thing throws loads of fake trojan horse threats against your system and changes your host files. The main problem is it causes a bunch of processes to run in the background so it stops you from getting rid of it. If...

How do you go about restarting your life? I am trying to get over a relationship that lasted for 24 years. How do you start again? I was never good at dating to begin with and now I find myself older but no wiser about how to start relationships. I didn't understand the dating game then and I certainly don't get it now. I still...

I have been working my way through the Twin Peaks box set. I am about of a third of the way through and Id forgotten how great it is. I loved the series since its original airing and it has lost none of its edge and strangeness in nearly 20 years. David Lynch is one of the true cinematic visionaries. When I look back at...

Tessie's doing ok thank you. She's really confused and not particularly happy but I spoke to the diabetic nurse at the vets yesterday and she agreed we should lower her insulin for the next week and see how she is then. She's been having a lot of hypo's lately which isn't good at all. Fingers crossed, once we're in the new place (tomorrow) she'll get back into a good groove and will be a lot happier and healthier smile Diabetes needs constant routine and my life has been anything but this year; which has taken its toll on Tessie unfortunately. Still, I hope to enjoy celebrating her 16th birthday in less than a month smile

Just got back from work and feel really tired. I have been off work for 6 months with Meniere's disease in my left ear, something I've had now for 9 years. I'm working reduced hours but it's amazing how you can get out of the habit of working and following a routine. Still it is much better to be back in the land of the...

Thank you very much for your kind comment. MD is a middle ear condition that causes dizziness and vertigo in case you were interested LOL.

I'm looking forward to the Philosophy course. I've touched on it in the past through studying Literature but never looked at it in depth

I have never written a blog before but thought it was time to try something new.

I guess the best way to start would be to explain why I decided to join SG.

I have been aware of the site for some time but never considered actively participating. Following some changes to my life in recent months I decided that I have always been a...
