Had a great day at the Literature and Arts Festival in Hay On Wye yesterday. Saw lectures by philosopher A. C. Grayling (who it was amazing to meet in person afterwards), mathematician Marcus Du Sautoy, scientist Robert Winston, Author Jeanette Winterson and the brilliant Christopher Hitchens.
Whilst all of the lectures were very good I was especially impressed by Jeanette Winterson. She was there because this year is the 25 anniversary of the publication of Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit. What made the event so special was that she had turned up expecting to be interviewed by Peter Florence only to find out that she would actually be on her own. Consequently she gave a very impromptu and heartfelt lecture. I feel privilaged to have been present, things like this don't happen very often, and will certainly read more of her in the future
Hope you've all had a great weekend too.
