Today I:

- got new registration and plates for my car
- voted in Canada's Federal Election
- made hummus from scratch. Like, dried chickpea scratch.

All of that before 11 AM. I rule.

I got just a stupid black one for now. I'm covering it in stickers.

Same here - and it's being played quite often as of late.

Hope that you're well, my friend.

  • I got my air brakes qualification last week and got a raise at work.

  • Today I learned what 3715 kg of compost looks like when you dump it in a pile. It's a big pile.

  • My hockey team continues to suuuuuuuuuck. It's painful.

  • Sweater remains incomplete.

  • Boneshaker remains partially read. I can't read at work any more and after a day of recycling my brain...

Yeah. I've been using Chrome for quite a while now. Firefox 4 is pretty, and if it's any slower than Chrome, it's imperceptible to me. The one thing that bothers is me, honestly, is that Firefox renders some fonts weirdly compared to Chrome.

  • Working outside in -25 (-35 with the wind) kind of sucks.

  • I'm attempting to knit a sweater.

  • Between my last journal and now I did lights for a show. It was nice to do theatre again even if I spent two weeks sick and exhausted.

  • I went to the Heritage Classic and froze my face, legs, feet and ass off. I had a great time...

Oh, I'm sure of it; it's just a matter of when (which is the same question I ask myself before hitting the bottle, haha).

I'd mail you some if it wasn't a federal offense.

So, the first two weeks of the new year have been a mix of good and bad.

The Bad

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
On the 6th a friend of mine passed away. He had been sick for a year and a half and it wasn't unexpected but it was still a bit of a blow. I drove out to his funeral on Thursday. It's the...

Obligatory New Years post.

2010 was pretty lame. 2011 starts with a new job and a raise. I spent the first day of the year sleeping in, eating breakfast with Jody, watching hockey, ordering new books and drinking a large 9% beer. I'm hoping for more of that.

Unrelated videos from opposite ends of my musical taste.

Actually I did get them at the pet store. Hence my frustration that they weren't designed for the already-existing dog poop picking up system.
chazstrummer:
Yeah, it gets that cold in places likie Minnesota and the Dakotas. It's all relative, I guess. I do seem to recall it being around zero fahrenheit several years ago, so it's not like record breaking cold here. And we've had more snow before, too.

As an employee at a recycling company I move a lot of empty cans and bottles around. All of the empties we collect get dropped off at the bottle depot in downtown Calgary. It is not a great place to spend a lot of time. First of all, hauling 65 gallon bins full of empty wine bottles is not fun. They are heavy and I...

My New Year's resolution is to buy you a beer in person. Either you come here, or I go to you. But it's happening this year. I swear it.

Seriously. I still have that fucking hat. I'm almost tempted to grunge fuck it now on basic principles. But then I remember I actually LIKE you.

I haven't really been busy but I guess some stuff has happened in the last month.

I celebrated my 27th birthday by driving up to Edmonton to visit my best friend and his wife who had a baby a few days earlier. I held a five day old baby girl. I didn't drop her and I was not puked on. Visit number one was a...

The Thrashers just waived Dawes. -6 in 6 games w/ 6 shots and no points. They want to send him to the AHL though.

Some Crazy Shit the Cook at Work Has Told Me

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

There is no such thing as transmitted disease. People can't pass colds or flus to each other. His proof for this is that Mother Theresa never got AIDS even though she worked with sick people. I could have explained to him that it was seriously unlikely that she was sharing needles...

A couple weeks ago I read this.

It's a book about the search for the Northwest Passage and all of the horrible scurvy-filled, freezing death that ensued. I loved it.

Last week Parks Canada found this.

It's one of the lost rescue ships from the book. It was trapped in the ice for two years and eventually abandoned. They also found the graves of three...
