Still getting used to the new site. There are some changes I really like, such as being able to @ reply people and not seeing the percent loved. Other changes I'm not as into - for example I loved the old smilies and I can't find them/ the don't exist. I think mostly once I'm used to the new layout it will be functional, and...

I don't like the idea of there being *so* much less information on each page.  The fact that I now  have to click on 5 pages to find what used to be altogether on one page makes the experience here seem really disjointed.  And even when I do get to those 5 pages, what's there is so much reduced in content from the old format.  All in all, it gives the feeling that SG has been really dumbed down, an unsettling trend that we see in so many things these days.   Of course they say we'll get used to it, and perhaps we will, but the idea that we'll all find ourselves  get used to things that are increasingly bereft of content and complexity, simply because they look better on a tiny screen, is worrisome I think.   Then again, I'm old fashioned, and not one who lives my life on a tiny screen.

Trans people and their struggle occupies a big place in my thought space. Moreso now than usual, because one of the people closest to me is beginning to move towards transitioning. The concept of questioning is central to my life and transgender people are forced to question something others are able to take for granted. What does it mean, exactly, to be "male" or "female"?...

Hey. I feel the same way. It's shocking to see that even in the Bay Area, where I like to think we all are lgbt friendly and open minded, trans people are discriminated against. I saw it happen to a good friend who recently got fired, most likely for his gender expression. I'm glad you posted this for folks who may not know anyone trans to think about it! Also, I apologize for meeting you briefly at Pop's a few weeks ago and totally not recognizing you! Ill try to come in soon to properly meet you and hang out! Xoxo

@barbary that would be awesome, I'd love to meet you for realsie!

Do you feel empty inside?

Do you fill the emptiness with relationships, drugs, food, shopping, tv, arguing with people on the internet, being successful?

Do you need to numb the ache of that empty hole somehow?

Where does that emptiness come from, why does it exist? Why is just being never enough?

Do you drink yourself to sleep?

Are you constantly sarcastic?

Do you have...

EXACTLY how I felt while I practiced martial arts. Then were a few occasions when I had to use my abilities in defense of others and I have to admit... I felt a rush.

Experiencing a lack of pleasure from activities, as in, all activities, was something I never experienced until a couple of years ago. It was the first time I ever thought of suicide as "Oh, now I see, this does make sense."

But what it is, is just your mind misbehaving. In a terrible and insidious way.

Do you still feel this way? You can get out of it. Drugs, therapy, change of scenery, change of everything, I don't know. It's terrible and it's particularly terrible to someone rational and introspective. But you can get out of it.

We'll find out tomorrow what it looks like will happen; it's something with his kidneys, and the tests they've done aren't clear on whether it's an infection or a manageable condition or just full-on kidney failure, but either way we're paid up through tomorrow afternoon and I'm told they should know in the morning whether he's showing any signs of improvement or not, so sometime tomorrow I'll know how things will go. I can be okay with however they go, at the end of the day; I just couldn't have been okay leaving it where it was last night, with, "Well, it could be he just needs some water and antibiotics or whatever, or it could be that his kidneys are done for good, but either way if nothing is done and he goes home, he's not going to make it." I just want to make sure we know, to the extent we can.

I'll tell you what, either way: the next time I spend this much money on a pet, said spending will result in ownership of an adorable little dog who can get hilariously stuck in the puppy gate at my house, dammit. wink

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I don't really enjoy the "traditional" festivities of getting hammered on Corona and showing strangers your boobs, but I do enjoy celebrating Mexican heritage. So Viva Mexico!
