What do you do when having spent so long with that most important person in your life, you discover that those important bits of a person, which you expected to find in someone you seemed to fit with so well, just aren't there. When the person you love not only doesn't want to go where you want to go, but also doesn't much see the point in your wanting to go there.
I suspect this is actually a pretty common experience, but that most people would rather avoid facing up to it.
But then what would I know?

It does sound from the way you put it like it's a deal breaker. As I see it, there are occasionally going to be people coming along whom we can legitimately love, but only a few will be suitable life partners, while the others may become treasured friends. Thank goodness we only need to find one of the former.
BTW, my blog refers in passing to how I dealt with such a realization.
