It's the whole "bedtime" thing that is dicey. I really have to choose a time...and I kinda want to keep choosing 2:30 am which isn't the best, but look it's already 4 am and I didn't notice.
This it the thing.Night hours come and go like water through your hands. Day hours are like chinese water torture.

My life is GREAT!!

1) If all goes according to plan, I'll be spending the rest of the year working freelance as a professional personal assistant. I'll be working for friends, which is wonderful. It should only take up 3-4 days every week, which leaves me enough time to write and record. There's even a possibility that I'll be flying to Albuquerque once every month...

So how come you're in soft-core land but not on AIM?

Carrie and Jared just came up to borrow some whiskey. We had no scotch (to my knowledge) and she has a gnat problem. Of course. smile

Hey, I went for a walk around Lake Merritt on monday and am trying to make it happen more often. I know you've been going for strolls more often, so if you ever want to go do something like that...
I'm not like some speedwalker (though I'm from NY)or jogger(though I should be). I just like it because it's a clear amount, 3 miles or 5 depending on what road you take, so I can gauge how much exercise I'm still not doing.
heh.
anyway.

Juliana and I are both sick. Gross snottiness abounds.

I'm working on new ways to work. I don't think that I can survive in this world unless I'm doing something that's meaningful to me. All those people who spend years and years at jobs that mean nothing more than a paycheck... I don't know how they do it. I don't think that I have the...

Yeah, I'm sort of that way too. I mean I didn't question it before but I couldn't in good conscience pass it on like that. Still, it's funny how much allegience one has to something even if it's not correct.
I keep thinking I gave those to you already! Maybe I'll stop by tuesday evening.
I have to listen to your stuff some more, I've only done a preliminary scan, then got sidetracked.
But I'm not blowing it off!!

The vocal on Electric Fence sounds just like David Bowie, with a shovelful of Leonard Cohen's gravelly-ness. Actually the second song, St. Martha, I immediately latched onto because of the banjo...though I'm not quite sure of the full harmonic vocals yet --sort of Crosby, Stills and Nashy.
I can get really picky about the vocals. Even had to work on accepting Calexico's singer...he definitely the "Cal" part of the name. The reason why I'm picking it out on these albums means I'm already into the rest of the sound.
I like the singer's voice in Pedro the Lion, it's straightforward, steady, without pretense, and I like the first song a lot and see potential in others when I'm in more of a rockin out mode.
I really took to the way mercury rev starts- symphonic, sweeping, almost cinematic (reminds me of Hem) but then the voice comes in and was really jarring! Will take some listening to before the verdict's in. Part of me wants it to blend in but I could see that being too smarmy. However it's bordering on that Neil Youngish high whine...
The vocals on Sparklehorse are high, too, but they sound more integrated with the instruments, and feel a little less wobbly.
Yeah, I can talk a lot about this stuff.
I can talk a lot in general.
I listen then we talk soon.
