so, friday we celebrated hubby's birthday.
we were dog-sitting (you heard a/b how that started, but it got better) and had 3 friends in town.
life was a little hectic.
plus there was some stress at work.
all in all, we were all ready to paint the town.
had dinner at a fine restaurant called Bastien's - a family up-scale diner place where they serve a lot of steak and potatoes and pie.
i had soup and salad.
hubby had filet mignon wrapped in bacon. w/ mashed potatoes swimming in butter and sour cream. yummers.
for dessert my friend and i split a piece of peach pie, a la mode, fried on a skillett and drenched in clarified butter! (butter up that bacon, boy!)
ouch. but it tasted oh, so good.
then met switched out one group of friends for another - my friend kim showed up wearing a vintage black t-shirt that read D.A.R.Y.L. across the front - from the movie War Games - very cool. we sucked it up and went to the church.
this is a club that sounds really good in theory, but the people waiting in line out front, and featured in their ads always look like total schmucks. so we've never gone. but since our favorite club is no more, and they now have "vinyl at the church" on fridays, we decided to check it out.
we didn't get there till almost midnight anyway, but it was pretty cool. it's a converted cathedral and they have kept all the churchy things a/b it just removed all the pews.
the music was very good.
and they had an acrobat! it was like a mini cirque du soliel. he did all kinds of death-defying feats while suspended by 2 bungee cords from the ceiling.
when they shut down we headed to an after-hours place called 2 AM. we had gone to another afterhours place in denver once and had the worst time ever. the place was a pit - they had obviously put no effort into decorating it. it was just a dungeonous maze of rooms w/ so-so music, dirty floors, cememt walls - obviously just a place to go while you wait to come down.
and we had holed ourselves in a little secluded couch, but in front of us was a woman giving massages for $10 and this one guy kept coming back a/b every 15 min. and he always started on his stomach but would flip over onto his back and he always had an erection - it was disgusting!
anyway, i digress. this place we went on fri was the polar opposite - great decor, great music, hottie little bartender who danced behind the bar.
we came home at 5 am, stayed up to watch MST3K, then dozed on the couch.
then had to rouse ourselves to go to a party hosted by my hospital for the out-going and in-coming interns.
then work on sunday.
more people visiting on sunday for hubby's actual birthday day - out to dinner, margaritas, watched my favorite movie - Secretary, to bed.
only to rise early this am to go hiking w/ out of town friends and dog.
hot, but pretty.
dog rolled around in tall grass and is now host to approximately 1 million foxtails (grass seeds w/ arrow-shaped heads that burrow under the skin, especially in the ears and inbetween toes and cause abscesses). spent most of the afternoon brushing the dog and picking fox tails out by hand and then vacuuming - then more picking and more vacuuming. etc.
took one friend to the airport. did laundry.
another friend leaves wed and another comes into town on thrs.
ARG! i need some routine back!
ok, time to stop rambling.
hello to everyone - vega

Um, er, Vega... if I had as much energy as you guys do I think I could get a lot more accomplished. Maybe it's just ambition I'm lacking!?! Hmmm. No I think its maybe self-esteem. Hee! At any rate your journals are very amusing. I'll tell you what, just keep going like crazy and I won't have to. I'll just live vicariously through your experiences. ok?
