I know what you're thinking: "Goddammit! Fucking Stark again, with another long-winded blog!"
And to be fair, you're probably right. I gotta own that.
Today's blog... wait. Am I almost caught up? Freaky. Ahem. Today's blog is sooo fricking hard for me.
Who is your favorite fictional character and why?
Jesus Christ on a rubber crutch at the Wendy's drive-thru with a fucking duck under his arm, @Rambo! You trying to give me an aneurysm? I have almost 40 years worth of fictional characters floating around in my head. How the hell do I narrow this down?
Fuck my life...
Okay, we're gonna give this the old college try. First, I need to eliminate some candidates, because this is needle-in-a-haystack territory for me. I can drop all the old role playing characters and NPCs from the field; no one will recognize them, and I'm not going to geek out hard enough to explain those. (You're welcome)
Next, to come up with a list of usual suspects... (See figure 1 below)
Okay, apparently, my brain is sitting on the literal couch. No help.
I can drop most characters from the 70's. I don't remember them well. Except for movies, and I blame Ted Turner for that. I'll also drop from the running: Mythologies, Legends and Religion, because, hey. Artemis might get a bit touchy if I called her 'fictional'. (She started out a bit on the touchy side anyway, so I'll leave that alone.)
So, I only have to choose from the Classics, books, TV, Movies, comics, video games and everything in between the 1980's until now. Fuck.
Narrowing it down to two earth-shattering phenomena, the fiction that has been with me for most of my life...
Star Wars, and X-Men. So, That puts it to a manageable line-up.
Princess Leia was my first crush... but she didn't stick with me through puberty. I didn't start liking Solo better than Skywalker until much later on in life. Vader and Magneto kinda crush one another; I cannot choose between them. Wolverine? I like Fett better than him.
Gambit? Getting warmer. Love that character, to this day. He's smooth, suave, a certified badass, and is always in control of the situation... except when he wasn't. His biggest weakness (and I think the focal point of his own secret agenda) is actually my fave of all time...
Yep. Rogue. I bought the comic for her, a lot of the time. When she got her own series, I bought that too. Yep, I had a crush on Rogue. She was one of the darkest of the characters, but still managed a sunny facade. She was vivacious and willful, and powers aside, she was one of the aces among the heavyweights of the strong, powerful women at the mansion, and even in the Marvel universe. She changed constantly. (See?)
Fuck yes.
Yeah. Wild lands pin-up. Fuck me running.
My favorite pic of Rogue, ever. While she was super-fucking-holy-nutballs-strong and could shrug off a solid hit from Juggernaut... or the HULK(!) She was still vulnerable in many ways, and flawed.
Rogue can hold her own in almost anything you throw her into.
As a bonus... Quite possibly the best cosplay I've ever seen of Rogue (Gold Team, late 80's era), and the way I remember her best.
A cosplay of the current X-Men: Evolution Rogue. Did I mention fucking sexy?
I think so. Rogue's relationships with each of the X-Men (and a select few of the villains) were so interesting to me. She was written well enough to have a distinct relationship with each member of the team, and even managed to get under Colossus' bio organic steel skin. In the end, Gambit may have gotten my attention, but it was Rogue who stole my heart.
*sigh*
